Okay, I'm going to turn this into my Spanish TAC 2010 log as of....right now!
Okay now that that is out of the way, I'd like to lay out my schedule for Spanish. I've taken one semester of Spanish already and I start the second semester on 1-6-2010. However, I'm also going to be doing Pimsleur Spanish 1 (one) lesson a day until I find the unit that begins to challenge me. Then I will do Pimsleur lessons 2x a day, three days in a row until I feel good about the material. I also plan to continue using my AMR Spanish II cassettes because I find them to be a nice level of dialog and grammar explanation, plus there is a book that goes along with it that I can read from so it helps. I'll be restarting AMR Spanish on New Years also, so I can have something to alternate between Pimsleur with. I'll also be attending classes 4x a week at my local college and going to lab + tutors atleast once a week for Spanish. I hope to reach an Intermediate-Advanced level of Spanish before December 31, 2010 in listening, speaking, writing and reading Spanish. I also have Programmatic Spanish from FSI Website which I'll probably delve into after Spanish II is complete at school, but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it. So, I've previewed the Pimsleur Spanish lessons already and I have to say that, I feel confident about it. Really, really, confident about it!
Odd, that feeling of confidence, since I've listened to lesson one of both Spanish and Japanese and I feel un-confident about Japanese. I'm planning to start pretty slow with Japanese, two lessons a week, while with Spanish I hope to set a regular pace of 3+ lessons a week. But first, I'm going to do one lesson of Spanish a day until I reach a point where I meet new material/something troublesome. I've dabbled in and out of Spanish since I was 12 and have one semester of College level elementary Spanish 1001 under my belt, so maybe I'm only able to feel confident because I've SEEN the words and there is nothing for me to learn from Lesson one of Pimsleur Spanish, so it was easy to listen, repeat and feel good about whats to come. I dont know... Either way, I'm getting really excited about this upcoming TAC. I'm hoping it will morph into a really positive, productive past time for me. An Overview of the "First Quarter" of my Spanish T.A.C. Here's a look at what I've got planned and am hoping to accomplish between Jan 1-Apr 30th 2010. Any and all feedback is welcomed.
Week ONE Lang 1 Start Pimsluer Lesson One 01 – Fri L. 1 02 – Sat l. 2 03 – Sun L. 3 04 – Mon L. 4. 05 – Tue L. 5 06 – Wed L. 6 07 – Thu L. 1-6 Review Week One End Ending Point So, this is a sample of the mini schedule I'll be keeping each Week of my studies. I go to a Spanish class 4x a week, lab 1x-2x a week and I'll see how much time my schedule permits me to go see a Tutor this semester, but hopefully I will see them 2x-3x a week. I'll be using Pimsleur along with working my way through some of the Spanish books I have at home. Most of them are workbooks geared toward Highschool-College students. I'm hoping to finish 30/30 lesson from Pimsleur level I and maybe 10-15/30 lessons of level II Pimsleur, but I haven't counted this out just yet. 40 lessons in roughly 15 weeks might be a little...tough? Maybe not because I have all this extra material but I'll have to see. I'm going for hi-quality quantity, so I wont be just moving on for the sake of moving on, but I honestly don't foresee too much difficulty with 40 lesson because, I've already had one semester of Spanish and have alot of "rote/pointless" dialog memorized or at least familiarized. My school text book is Puntos De Partida 8th Ed, I have the workbook and lab manual to accompany them. My private collection of Spanish Materials consists of: The Everything Learning Spanish Book Realidades lvl 1 Workbook Más Práctica En Espanol lvl 2 FSI Programmatic Spanish Easy Spanish Reader The Complete Book of Starter Spanish** The Complete Book of Spanish** Spanish 2 -- Book + Cassettes* *Its an older course I got from my schools language lab for free from the lab attendant. Its by AMR Educational Systems, if any one knows where I might get volume 1, I'd really, really appreciate it. **Yes, I AM serious :). I also plan to get back into the habit of making good use of my Public library card and check out the Spanish books they have there. (I'm going to be getting more materials from my School Libraries also, I just want to keep the Spanish work flowing, no matter what until the end of this semester at least. I'm going to be moseying my way through these materials through out the Semester also. I hope to finish all the work books, The Kiddy ones and the ones I got from my friends who took Spanish in HighSchool but never do their work, I also will be aiming to finish The Everything Learning Spanish Book. I think the biggest problem I'll be having is that all this stuff is geared towards beginner stuff so I have to go through it and get it behind me so I can make room for all the Next Level of Spanish study stuff that I'm sure to acquire. My textbook and workbooks have a good bit of Vocabulary to them so I'm not worried about that. At the beginning of this year, I copied out several hundred words from My First 1,000 words in Spanish, if/when I find that notebook I will work on expanding my vocabulary of around the house things, if not, I'll just get the book again and copy out all words of priority that I don't know. I'll also be watching as many cartoons (Dora, Berenstain Bears, Blue's Clues, etc) in Spanish as I can stand. Hopefully, 4x a week. I choose these baby cartoons for several reasons. 1) They are Native Speakers (I'm fairly sure), 2) Simplistic but (Somewhat) relevant dialogue 3) I can pick out and follow the grammar when spoken at this "child friendly" pace. I did two Pimsleur lessons in SPN today, and it was easy-peasy lemon squeezy!
I I'm going to review lesson 2 tomorrow and probably do 3 & 4 tomorrow if I can find the time and if I can gain a sense of mastery of the material also :). Well, here I am again in the AM hours of the night/day doing my daily language exercises.
Anyway, I did Japanese in a timely manner, but fell asleep and woke up later Much later. Anyway I'm going to do lessons 3-5 and count it as the work for both yesterday and today. Hopefully I can get back on track soon. This Thursday will be a relief for sure :). I will find -- no MAKE time -- later on today (its 4 am now) to review lesson 3-5. Just by listening to the opening conversations and doing the reviews at the end of each lesson. 1 person has voted this message useful | |

Okay, I'm on lesson 5 of Pimsleur and today was the first day of Spanish class in school. We didn't do anything but go over the Syllabus. Tomorrow I'll be reviewing the key points from the first semester.
I'm hoping to make it through all 3 levels of Pimsleur SPN before the Fall. I've yet to sit down and crunch numbers, but if I do at least 1 lesson a day, which seems to be all I can realistically manage with everything else that I have to do in my day, then I'm sure I can make it by Summer at best, because I THINK there are only 90 lessons total, but there might be 100. Either way, I hope to be done WELL before the Fall. Over all, I'm pleased with my little victories. I'm hoping that even though I have a big vocabulay, Pimsleur will help me get up and speaking, because its difficult for me to speak. I'm always akward when forming my sentences and it is more than a little frustrating -- all the time and money I spend on that college class and I cant truly speak....*grr* Anyway, I'm hoping that Pimsleur can help me to start speaking easily and understanding spoken conversation more easily. 1 person has voted this message useful | |

Quick Update:
I've not been keeping up with my Pimsleur Spanish lessons but I've been working in grammar books and attending class and lab. I haven't gotten a chance to speak Spanish with anyone yet, but I will make more of an effort once the administrators figure out when the language lab is going to be open for the students more regularly. I've got some new food related vocabulary, and the teacher went over a new Grammar point that I cant remember how it works (the personal"a", lo/la for 'it' in some sentences and stuff. The example was so abstract that I am not sure I could use them in sentences, however, I now know what I'm looking at when I'm reading in Spanish so that helps. Also, I checked out Ingles sin Barreras from the school library and am using it to learn some basic, Spoken Spanish, I was delighted to be able to read through and UNDERSTAND so much of the written Spanish, even though its for teaching English to Spanish Speakers. :). I'm using the Manual from Vol. 1 so right now I'm doing more reinforcing/reviewing than learning when it comes to the actual phrases, but I'm very happy about my reading comprehension when Í read in the manual. 1 person has voted this message useful | |

I decided that Necessito escribir un poco articulo en espanol todo los dias porque quiero aprender hablar espanol.
I'm going to try and keep a little blog going in Spanish and eventually in Romaji/Japanese. I'm at school right now and dont have my laptop. I'm going to learn to use the International Keyboard so I can type in Spanish properly, but for now, please, if anyone corrects it focus on the grammar and spelling NOT missing accent marks. 1 person has voted this message useful |
