Oh, and the other day, just for kicks I wanted to record myself reading a paragraph of Italian. I thought to myself "obviously this will sound just like rai uno". The hell it did. I was disgusted with myself. :D
So that might actually pose something of a problem. Obviously I'm not going to obsess about it now when I don't even have the fluency *to* talk, but I think I might have to do some work on pronunciation. 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

Levi, I tend to think that there is such a thing as "the right time" with these things. Watch 50 movies when you understand very little and it will benefit less than watching 10 at a time when you're better prepared to absorb them. Don't you think? After all, we're talking about using your time as best you can, so it matters how much you can get out of it. I've come across a variation that doesn't seem to feature much: > Be', se non si trattava di tattica, allora l'ha fatto d'istinto. Il che è ancora più pericoloso. I realize it's rather imperfect to be quoting sentences out of a novel, and it would be too much hassle to type up the preceding paragraph for you. Even so it might not clarify the meaning to 100%. But here the guy who is being spoken to has been very impudent in the opinion of the speaker and he's being scolded for it. My interest lies in the use of "il", which seems to be used as a pronoun instead of "lo". I've seen this once or twice before, but it seems very rare. 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

I don't think the loss of efficiency is nearly that high. Even if you only know basic vocabulary and basic grammar, I think you can absorb a lot from a movie. You're going to need massive amounts of audio input from somewhere in order to get accustomed to the spoken language, and movies are probably one of the best ways to get that input, given that there are so many visual clues to let you know what they're talking about, and vivid images to attach to the words and phrases you hear. But of course it all boils down to how you learn best. If you find you learn best by building a really solid foundation and then watching movies, by all means do that. The full stop instead of a comma is an "artistic license". It should be: "l'ha fatto d'istinto, il che è ancora più pericoloso". The pronoun's place is not taken by "il", but by "il che", which we could literally translate into the horrible "the which": "he did it by impulse, (the) which (fact) made it even more dangerous". 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

My accent is influenced by any of these languages, hard to say which precisely: Polish, Norwegian, English Transcript: - Ieri ti ho cercato tanto; dov'eri finito? - Sono stato tutto il giorno da Pino per aiutarlo a sistemare il nuovo appartamento e sono tornato a casa soltanto dopo cena. Ma perché mi hai cercato? - Volevi invitarti a cena fuori insieme a Franca e Mario. - Peccato! Ci sarei venuto volentieri. Avresti dovuto dirmelo per tempo, così non avrei preso un altro impegno. - Immaginavo che ti saresti ricordato che ieri era il mio compleanno e che avresti almeno telefonato. - Scusami!
