Besides English I only can understand Russian perfectly, meaning I understand every single word and I can read it, although with an accent and I may mistake the location of the stress. (I can actually perfectly understand the No#1 Article of the UDHR in all Slavic languages)

I plan to learn all the UN languages, starting with Chinese, then improving my Russian and then French and Arabic. Spanish I plan to learn last as it is the least appealing to me.

Great goal, and a good variety of popular languages too. Good luck! :)

Well the UN languages are on the top of my list, but there are other major languages I will or would try to learn, like German, Japanese and Portuguese. I am curious why UN doesn't add these languages to its repertoire, since if I'm not mistaken the UN added the languages it has now after WWII when for example German and Japanese was spoken by the defeated side. But that has been long ago, shouldn't they do some sort of update?

I can read the English, Spanish and French.

I can make out basically what the Russian is saying.

Chinese and Arabic though, are scribbles on the page for me at the moment.

That will probably not happen. They might add German (and they should in my opinion), but its been 60+ years, I doubt they are going to change anything.

Maybe on the 100th anniversary?
