In the coming months I will try to read as many books in Italian as I can, the goal being about 1 per week.

Good luck! I think it'll be needed especially if you want to achieve one book a week - hugely ambitious plan (it seems to me at least.. ). I hope my Italian one day will be at this level that I'll be able to read books.
Good luck again! :)

Ha, I can barely motivate myself to read one book a week in my native English.

What type of book? I'd say that unless its a small book (c.200 pages), I'd say 1 book a week is over ambitious. I'd suggest instead reading a 1 chapter a night, as its smaller info and thus is easier to digest and evaluate mentally.

So far it's working fine, let's hope it lasts. They are Italian crime novels about 200 pages a piece.

Why limit oneself to one chapter per night when the motivation is high? :)
I think it's a great to read one book per week. Even in one's native language. A question for François: do you feel the need to understand "every word", or are you content with "most of it"?

In this case I am indeed trying to understand every word. I don't, so I write down dutifully each 'new' word with a view of making flash cards. I'll see how long I last but it's a good method for me.

Are they original works? Where did you get them from? Thanks.
