I agree with you that it's better to omit hamza than writing them in wrong places. Once I visited an elementary school where the teacher wrote on the board : الإستاذة الهام I was sitting there and thinking shouldn't it be الأستاذة إلهام. With a teacher like that, the kids will never learn the rules.
Ignorance doesn't seem to be a valid reason to skip on grammar, but it's your language, so I'd better shut up.

Actually the teacher wrote it right, it's الهام.
Hamzat has many cases that even an Arab would forget later, I was very good in Arabic grammar at school but forgot a lot of things since then, one of them is hamzat.

Actually it should be written with hamzat alqat3: إلهام is like إسلام
يا أخي، كيف تكتب كلمة إسلام؟ بالهمزة أم لا؟ الاسم إلهام هو مصدر الفعل ألهم الذي على وزن أفعل،ومثله إكرام و إصلاح و إيمان وإسلام، وهذه الكلمات تندرج تحت همزات القطع، وعلى كل حال، إذا استعملنا مصادر الأفعال أسماءً للإناث أو الذكور فإننا نهمزها، وإن كانت همزاتها همزات وصل، مثل إبتسام و إنطلاق وإنتصار، هي في الحقيقة مصادر للأفعال ابتسم وانطلق وانتصر، وهذه الأفعال ومصادرها تندرج تحت همزات الوصل.
فإن كانت هذه المعلومة قد سقطت من ذاكرتك فها قد أرجعتها إليك .
