Further honeymoon arrangements and extended work hours. Sometimes life gets in the way, I guess.

Fri, Jan 14

French: 1hrs 15mins (MT Advanced, Vocab)
German: 0hrs 30mins (Deutsche Welle news reading)

Read some news articles on the Deutsche Welle website, and continued with the second run-through of MT Advanced for French. Worked my way through some French vocab too (colours, fruits).

Week 2 - Progress

Comments:
A little busy with work and other commitments in the latter half, but still happy with progress this week. Motivation at a record high - the drop in hours corresponds only to a lack of available study time.

Have decided to fire up the old shortwave radio at home, to see if I can get the Deutsche Welle and RFI broadcasts at home while I'm studying. Used to play about on the shortwave all the time when I was a child, so the thought of firing it back up is quite nostalgic. I'll be building a shortwave antenna over the next few days when I can find the time, and will let you know if the endeavour bears fruit.

Hi,

Daily posting was turning into a chore, and I decided to put the time into more
fruitful labours. Future posts here will not occur daily, but will still (I hope)
provide enough transparency into my approach to language learning and progress towards
my goals for this year (assuming one is interested in such things!).

I haven't posted in the last two weeks, as I have been preparing for the Zertifikat
Deutsch exam (B1 level) at the Goethe Institut, which I took today in Sydney. I felt
that I demonstrated my abilities well, and I should receive the results in the mail in
a few days time. I'll keep you posted.

I'm quite satisfied with my progress so far this year. The examination today was the
kindest I'll sit this year, and quite nice to get the engine warmed up, so to speak. My
attention is now turned from German to French. Examinations are being held at the
Alliance Francaise de Sydney in the middle of March, for all different levels of the
CEFR. I have 6 weeks until the exams, for which enrollments close in 2 weeks time, thus
I have a fortnight to determine if the B1 exam is achievable. At this time, I can see
no reason why not. I'll keep you posted.

I hope that you're all making fine progress so far this year with your language
learning.

Thanks,
Rob.

Received word from the Goethe Institut today that I've reached my first milestone for
this year. The rush of receiving a Zertifikat Deutsch in the post is really difficult to
describe, and for me, a reminder of why I choose to learn languages.

Now, onto French!

P.S. Thanks Paul for your kind words.
