Hi Jaynie,
Nice log! Your description of "Listen and Learn Spanish with your Favorite Movies" nudged me in the direction
of Spanish instead of French for my next language; I'm always debating between the two, but a resource like
that would be so much fun.
Good luck with your Danish studies and your upcoming move!

I traded in a bunch of books the other day at a local used bookstore and came home with Danish treasure :)
For $3.00 I got a "Anthology of Danish Literature" that was published in 1971. It is a 600 page bilingual text that roams through ballads from the Middle Ages, a short story by Karen Blixen, excerpts from Kierkegaard's writings, and so much more. I could not believe my good fortune!
I've done reasonable well with my studying. Obviously I haven't done quite as well with the posting. I will be visiting Denmark in just a few weeks and moving there in June. I can't wait!

Hi Jayne!
I'm a girl from Denmark (born and raised) and am so excited to read a blog from someone who is learning the Danish language. Although it's not a widely spoken language I personally think it's really cool because not many people speak it.
So why are you moving to Denmark and where in Denmark you are going live?
By the way, if you are interested in Danish fairy tales, I'll recommend the autor Hans Christian Andersen, although I am not sure how much it's going to help you with actually learning the language as his stories are over 100 years old. At that time the language was a little different than it is today. But his stories are still wonderful reads, I think.
As for movies the Danish movie "Hævnen"/"In a Better World" just won an Oscar for Best Foreign Language Movie, so it might be worth watching (can't say the for sure as I haven't seen it - yet! XD)
I wish you so much luck with your studies! :)

@RoseSpeaks,
Thank you so much for your reply and enthusiasm. I LOVE fairy tales. I bought a beautiful annotated version of the Hans Christian Anderson fairy tales and I have really been enjoying them. And I found some of them online in Danish here and an audio version here Love that!!
I've been studying food words. When I travel, I hate having to ask for an English menu. But there is a food allergy among us so we do have to know what we are ordering.

Ok, I am going to start my log again. I have been living in Denmark for 3 months now.
I no longer need an English menu in restaurants and I can go through the grocery line Danish-only. I have a small grasp on the grammar.
Next week I begin a class and I am very excited about that. Hopefully, it will help me unravel the mystery of pronunciation.

I have had 70+ hours of instruction in Danish over the course of six weeks. But now I will stop participating for a while. I have too many schedule conflicts and travel plans on my horizon.
So now I am going to give myself a 6 week challenge to prove (to myself) that leaving the class will not turn out to be a fatal blow to my Danish studies.
What I have learned well so far:
How to tell time
The weather
How to express a sense of time (today, yesterday, last year, on Monday...)
The numbers
How to make simple sentences and questions
Sometimes, Danish word order uses inversion and my teacher explained this really well. I can only imagine how long it would have taken me to puzzle through inversion on my own.
I had not had any formal language course since high school (that was a very, very long time ago!) and taking the classes really helped me figure out what type of language learner I really am.

I very seldom NEED to speak Danish.
I NEED to read Danish every day. And I desperately want to understand Danish.
So my priorities at the moment are reading and listening. But speaking is fun! The hardest part is finding a Dane who has limited or no English. So today I was super-excited to go into a little shop and the shopkeeper could not speak English.
We had a little conversation and I made some mistakes, but...SHE UNDERSTOOD ME!!I will definitely be going back there:)
