GERMAN
Doctor's appointment for my daughter today in German.
busuu and cards on Anki; after having taken on too much, I reset them (again) and am carrying about 200 and they are up to date. Yeah! Next days I'll add a few more tags/sections. 72.6% rate on mature which is frankly low, but I have not been consistent with them.

FRENCH
Just speaking, will take a book with me over the next days.

Nothing in the other languages.

Time to look at objectives?

Update after long absence on the site but still very much actively working on my languages.

GERMAN
Have been working more consistently with cards, lessons, busuu (finished a review of A1 A2 sections, now in B1 review) and a Practice Makes Perfect Pronouns and Prepositions. Been listening every day to either the radio, tv or podcasts. Every week has me doing an hour of F2F. The improvement is there but it is still very slow.

FRENCH
Speaking daily, some reading, very little writing. Some very light grammar review.

SPANISH
Weekly active use speaking and reading. Not enough writing.

LADAKHI
Perhaps an hour in the last 4 weeks

Language wandering
CZECH
A trip to Prague got me interested and the girls and I did about an hour a day for a week. Interesting, not likely to climb to the top.

YIDDISH
Went to a fantastic language bookstore on a recent trip and bought the ASSIMIL package. Read the first lesson. Would like to look at it deeper later on.

CHINESE
We are doing language lessons in the car when I drive the girls to school and as useless an my Chinese is, the little ones learnt 我是法國人 (I am French) this morning and have been repeating it all day, along with "Hello" and "Good/Not Good". Doesn't really count for me, but I find it amusing.

Nothing in the other languages.

Where are you getting the answers in green? There's another mistake besides 'Der Berufstätigen". It should be
"Armin unterschied sich".

EDIT for preterite-only.

Thanks, that is a typo on my part. The rest comes from the exercise answer key.

Time to review and simplify objectives and tasks. Some of my languages only have general goals and not specific objectives; that is fine, I can live with that.

GERMAN
- GOAL: Improve spoken and written German for everyday use.
OBJ: Move my German to a C1 level by the end of this year (certification test).
I WANT:
- Reading - comfortable reading novels, e-mail and newspapers with a level that I only need to look up 2 to 3 words per page.
- Writing - capable of expressing myself clearly and without faults in an eMail or letter or forum post.
- Listening and comprehesion - understand most films, radio and conversation in a group.
- Speaking - clearly understood in everyday interactions, capable to give a presentation in German, hold a meeting, give directions.
- MATERIAL: Everyday passive input from radio, TV. ASSIMIL Perfectionnement Allemand. F2F classes every week (1.5 hrs) and various podcasts and books. Grammar Lessons each week. I'll mention them as I use them. SRS program. Busuu. Podcasts: Slow German, Schlaflos in München.
- TASKS: Class once a week, cards 6/7 days, learning new vocab 2+ week. At least write an email or short letter or posts per week. Grammar lessons 2+ week. A book every month (mostly easy or bilingual readers).

STATUS: ON TRACK, I've been very active and following German well. Upgraded my tasks.

FRENCH
- GOAL: Increase comfort in written French.
- I WANT: to improve my writing - capable of expressing myself with ease and without faults in an eMail or letter or forum post.
- MATERIAL: Grammaire Progressive du Français. Reading books in French
- TASKS: Each week: read a grammar lesson and write an email or short letter or post. Read a book every 2 months.

STATUS: ON TRACK, but at risk.

LADAKHI
- GOAL: To learn all of the GSiL sections by the end of the year. This means not only the vocab and phrases but also reading off of flash cards and basic grammar here presented.
- MATERIAL: "Getting Started in Ladakhi", Flash cards and the usual word memorization techniques. Still need to find oral material as I have none here and youtube is rather poor in this area.
- METHOD: Passive/Active reading, Word and phrase memorization, Flashcards, On-site trip in late January.
- TASKS: Daily or every other work, at least 10-20 minutes.

STATUS: Behind and at risk, less motivation after the trip. Decision?

PORTUGUESE
- GOAL: Gather general knowledge of the language.
- OBJ: go from the beginnings last year to B1/B2 or further by the end of this year. Start slow on this and activate Q2.
- MATERIAL: ASSIMIL & Pimsleur. Pons Mini Sprachkurs Portugiesisch. Portuguese web resources, podcasts and a grammar book.
- TASKS: 1 or 2 lessons a week. SRS.

STATUS: Behind by about a month.

SPANISH
- GOAL: maintenance, continue to build vocabulary, keep oral fluidity, written fluidity.
- MATERIAL: Books, newspaper, web. Perhaps I need a grammar resource.
- TASKS: Read one or two books a year, write a letter or email a week or speak once a week at least for 30 min. Read a news story a week.

Until the end of summer, I will try to stay away from language wandering and put Italian, Chinese, Czech, etc... on hold. (I have not been too successful with that. I keep picking up random books)

Week in Review
GERMAN
Good feeling of improvement, I've been working with Anki, F2F class and speaking a little every day. A little busuu which I am using for more writing than previously.
SRS: For the cards that I am stuck on I am adding sentences for context. It helps a lot but is time consuming. Cards have been building up, I'm now carrying 700 cards.
Worked less this week with my workbook.

Did not use ASSIMIL, Slow German or much Schlaflos this week as I am stuck on "This American Life" and I am just listening to that webcast.
Reading a little but nothing concrete.

Change: For next week, read and write a little more.
Continue: SRS, busuu, iphone tools, class and every day small tasks.
Drop: English podcasts.

FRENCH
- Wrote short notes this week.
Need to read lessons and write longer texts.

LADAKHI
None this week, still need to make a decision, continue or not.

PORTUGUESE
None this week, still need to make a decision, continue or not.

SPANISH
Read short note and spoke for over an hour this week.
Continue reading from the web and speaking, perhaps listen to a podcast?

GERMAN
The last month I've been quite active with Anki and I'm finally up to date with a large part of my cards - 846 cards are active (out of 1615) so if I continue at this rate I'll be ok with all my cards in about a month. I'm pleased with this as I felt I was struggling and SRS was not succeeding. It takes time.
Listened to several SIM casts not that engaging in this set. German TV is still on/off affair.

ASSIMIL, Perfectionnement (French/German) - Lektion 4/5 - Did not use ASSIMIL for a long while as I had "kein Lust", the surprise is that I know understand these rather well.

This week - continue with SRS, busuu, iphone tools, class and every day small tasks.

FRENCH
Have installed French/Tibetan/German/Portuguese/Spanish keyboards on my iPhone which helps a lot - the spellcheck no longer proposes stupid changes for my French texts. along with Assimil, I am reading Haruki Murakami " Autoportrait de l'auteur en coureur de fond"

Je trouve le livre tres bien. Il nous donne une vision de son travail d'auteur et de sa vie mais aussi le plaisir d'avoir une vie rangee

This week still need to read lessons and write longer texts.

LADAKHI
On hold this week

PORTUGUESE
Decided to pick up again. Need to get material out and postcast back on phone.

SPANISH
this week continue reading from the web and speaking, add podcasts.
