And I come back ashamed of myself…

I have had a big fat two weeks of doing nothing. I had to deal for a bit with anxiety, I went to visit my sister, I kept procrastinating, the list of excuses is long, but I'm back!

I haven't managed to achieve my goals for this month, but I'm more interested in trying to achieve what I set myself to do than to actually achieve it. I bought a bookshelf and another shelf when I went to Ikea, so I could stock more books, and I've now got a language tower! It's pretty motivating to see all of my books like that, and makes me want to work.

I will be leaving for Russia on the 18th February, and now that all the paperwork has arrived (the invitation from the Immigration Office and the letter from my university), I need to go to Paris to give them my passport for them to put a stamp on it. The visa procedure is still as ridiculous as it was 5 years ago, and I need to get hold of documents I just about know where to find! I have booked my flights, and with a night in Riga, I fully intend to learn the greetings in Latvian!

Anyway, I got three books for Arabic this week, a bilingual French/Arabic version of One Thousand and One Nights, and two little workbooks that were designed for kids starting Arabic at 13/14 years old, and that I hope will help me revise my basics more easily than Al-Kitaab! I also need to start doing research for my dissertation, and that's what today is about, but I will definitely go to the library tomorrow, and do some serious work!

I haven't managed to complete my Italian cooking challenge, because half the food needed was not available (or the quality and price were just not acceptable), and there was things that I couldn't afford, which is a real shame! Anyway, I need to get to work now, and I'll be posting again soon!

Hey teammate! I'm so jealous of your organization skills! Keep at it. I've been avoiding
my studies too, so we can start back up together :)

Two weeks of doing nothing... Hopefully, the language tower will direct you back on course!

It all sounds complicated but I hope your preparation for Russia goes well :) Good to see you back, surely a language tower would motivate anyone ;) Good luck!

Hey! Anxiety must be hard to deal with, but it's understandable with all that stuff you have to take care of before leaving. Personally paperwork sometimes depresses me too, so I admire that you still managed to take care of that. You'll get plenty of language practice in Russia anyway, so don't feel bad about that couple of weeks. Anyway, I don't know if you'll keep posting once you're there, but I wish you a good second TAC month!

I am happy for you, that you are going to Russia. Remember to have fun!!! And don't bother to feel shame for anything you did or did not do when it comes to your studies. Life is way too short for that. :)

I can pretty much say I'm now settled in Russia!
I arrived on the 18th February, I already had a homestay organised, and it was lovely to see all my coursemates again. There are only 6 people in my class, and we're quite motivated, which is good. For the moment, I don't feel like we're doing much, but I know it's because I need to adapt a bit to the teaching and getting back to work has proved to be a bit more difficult than I first expected.

I am gonna review my aims, and as I said I might do, I will now exclusively focus on Russian and Arabic, as it will be too difficult for me to achieve anything if I really want to up my game in Russian. I have brought some textbooks with me for Arabic (Al-Kitaab 1, 2 and 3) as well as Ahlan Wa Sahlan as a complement. I also bought a bilingual version of Alf Laila wa Laila that I hope to start very soon!

It's not very easy to find a good work rhythm as I generally end up shattered from having to walk in the snow (it's SO much effort not to slip and fall!) and also because I often end up going to museums or even concerts after school (we went to see a Baroque music concert at the Smolny Cathedral yesterday, it sounds a bit like a dream, I must admit!)

Anyway, I am back, and even though I have pretty much wasted two months, I still have another 10 to complete my challenge, and I am more determined than ever! Here's a picture of Smolny Cathedral:
