Hi all,

First of all ein frohes neues Jahr to everyone! This is my first year taking part in
TAC. Not sure what to expect. I have a journel here already but I'll be putting all my
journel entries in this log instead from now on. I look forward to getting to know my
team mates better over the year and to interact with the other TAC German learners. No
sense in creating boundaries!

As a self learner it is hard to estimate at what level my German is at. I'm hesitate in
writing this down but best guessimate would be a level in the region of B2/C1.

My aim for 2011 is to get to Advanced Fluency - a lofty target!

My relative stengths would be Listening and Reading Comprehension. I have many hours of
L-R under my belt so this explains this area of strength. It's time to move on ...

My weaknesses would be writing and speaking. It is in these area that I want to target
for improvement. I'm considering writing portions of this journel in German. Scratch
that. I will write portions of this journel in German. Speaking is where its at for me
and this will be the true metric by which I'll be judging my success at the end of the
year.

I haven't decided on learning materials yet. I'm open here to suggestions. At this
stage I'm really enjoying gettin into native materials ... native German books and tv.
I was thinking of continuing L-R but adding Shadowing to get my speaking up to
standard, forcing myself to converse more in German (because I can be very lazy),
writing sample conversation pieces and researching the grammar myself. Any ideas given
my targets?

At the start of this TAC I wish all every success in 2011.

Study wise a terrible start to the year. I've been travelling lots and living out of a
backpack. It has disrupted my German study. I was however able to put together a few
thoughts on a study plan. The plan is to activate the language (eg shadowing) and using
as much as possible native materials now. A big element of the plan is the early
morning sessions. This will involve getting up 1 1/2 hrs earlier. I must be crazy.

Morning
Shadowing        &nb sp;  - 1/2 hr
Assimil          ;    - 1/2 hr
Reading Aloud       - 1/2 hr

Day
Radio (Passive)     - (not measurable as i'll be tuning in and out)

Evening
L-R         &nb sp;       - 1/2 hr
TV (+other media)   - 1/2 hr
Speak (+OnlineChat) - 1/2 hr

That's 3 hrs a day which is a big increase for me in time learning. It is called Total
Annihilation so that's what I'm aiming to do.

Hi ummagumma,
I wish you good luck with you studies!
I agree with you that in your level the native books and tv are the best materials.
Personnaly I enjoy reading "parallel" books in target and known languages. Assimil is not bad too.

Thanks James and Anya. I appreciate it.

Was even speaking for 1 1/2 hours last night in German. Look at me!!!

Na. Learning to activate and become competent with speaking (and stop being a coward!)
and getting more native material exposure is where it is at. I'll be the happiest guy
around if I can manage this. Keep the Faith.

Good luck to ye all.

Deutschlernen Woche 10/1 - 16/1

                Stunden
Shadowing     1 1/2
Assimil Kurs   4
Lesen           3 1/4

L&R            3 1/4
Sprechen      3 1/4
Schreiben       1/2
Fernsehen     2 1/2

Heute habe Ich gar nichts gemacht !!! Zuviel gearbeitet die letze Woche glaube Ich... Doch hast du 18 (!) Stunden pro Woche gemacht!! Ganz erstaunlich !! Ausgezeichnet ! Prima

Was sind deine Bücher und Audio-material ???

Hast du was vom Internet gekriegt?? oder nur gekauft??? (Ich kaufe nichts mehr "brand-new" Material !! Alles was Ich brauche, kriege Ich beim Internet)

Keep going!!
