Regarding Arabic textbooks, have a look at Ahlan Wa Sahlan. My university changed Al-Kitaab to this series, and it's
a hell of a lot more user friendly. I don't know very well how good it is, but it seemed a bit more thorough to me
(our teachers were giving us handouts from the 1st year AWS when we were in 2nd year, haha…), and it looks like a
textbook that could take you up to a good standard.
I'm not trying to advertise it, more to make you think a bit before you use Al-Kitaab, because although it's very
well-known, it can be pretty demotivating, haha, the book isn't very nice-looking, it's all in black and white and
some of the stories are a bit gloomy (Maha feels lonely, Khalid's grandma died in a crash car or something similar,
etc). I don't know other Arabic textbooks very well at all, but given the price of the Al-Kitaab series, I reckon it'd be
good to have a thorough browse. There are plenty of resources on this site http://www.al3arabiya.info/, but they're
not always legal, so it's up to you!
