I love learning the and speaking German, and especially enjoy grammar. My native language is English, and while I studied French at school, I find German more interesting, and also far easier to speak - my French pronunciation is dreadful! I love the sound of spoken French however, while Italian and Spanish leave me cold

I am still very much a beginner when it comes to language learning, but I listen to enough foreign/international music to have my preferences:
I love how it feels to speak Irish. Irish I liken to a best friend - there is intrinsic warmth, and I feel "at home" while immersed in it. I love its whimsicality and when spoken in native rhythm it is very musical. Russian is a bit like a dark, mysterious lover. Russian is wonderful to listen to. My favorite genre of music is Russian hip hop, as the natural rhythm of the language seems tailored to rap (just the manner in which the words strike the beat). It's such a powerful, expressive, masculine language. Finnish is a bit like the bad boy that I can't really afford to spend time on, but nor can I refrain from the occasional fantasy of conquering him... Sometimes, when I feel relaxed and a bit bored I start daydreaming of a post-apocalyptic world, only speakers of Icelandic and Cantonese have survived, and of the new world they create, the pidgin and creole language they communicate in ... To me,
English is grey. It's old, worn out and used. It's my native language and it does nothing for me. It's boring to me. :( Japanese is a light pink, like a cherry blossom. It's my pride and joy. I feel comfortable, safe and happy using it. It rolls off my tongue and everything about it just so right. Swedish is light blue. It's cute, somewhat familiar but also that has that very 'foreign' feeling about it. It's like a baby to me. Haha, strange... 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

I don't see what the thread starters post has to do with Synasthesia but..
My favorite language that I truly enjoy speaking is Indonesian with Javanese slang or Spanish with Mexican slang. I don't like speaking Russian, even though I have studied it for almost 6 months and am still living here... 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

My native language is German but I also speak English, Spanish, french and persian.

I definitely don't associate colours with languages. To me languages are like little personalities; I have no desire to travel and have not done so since my youth, but I find studying a particular language is like sitting down with a friend in a quiet place; it feels friendly and peaceful. All the languages I like to study are like little people, each with its own view on things, its own way of expressing feelings and emotions and recounting experiences. When I'm studying them, I feel as if parts of my brain are being stretched, exercised, and challenged. As I get to know them, it is like getting to know acquaintances better, learning to see life their way, and then finally discovering that they have become friends.
Definitely, like people, some languages take longer to get to know than others. :) 1 person has voted this message useful |
