Nueve Reinas is my favorite Spanish movie hands down. As for Como agua para chocolate - everyone recommends this- it wasn't my style.

I love "El sol del membrillo" about the painter Antonio Lopez.
"Arroz y Tartana" is a wonderful tv movie from 19th century novel.

My friend highly recommends "Amorres Perros", although I've never seen it.

Your friend is right it's a great film. I love all the films I've seen (which is most of them)directed by Almodóvar . One Spanish language film I really want to see at the moment is Tambien la lluvia (even the rain) but it's not showing in any cinemas near me yet, has anyone seen it?

Here's another vote for El milagro de P. Tinto. I would also recommend the following movies directed by Álex de la Iglesia: Acción mutante, El día de la bestia, Muertos de risa, La comunidad, Crimen ferpecto and 800 balas.

I saw this a few weeks ago now at one of the Spanish film festivals our city has every year. Fantastic film and would
highly recommend it to everyone. The main Quechuan actor is brilliant and hopefully he'll be getting a lot more
work after this. The drunken Colón is also great and of course so are Gael García Bernal and Luis Tosar. Definitely
see it when you get the chance.

I really liked La Espalda del diablo, a ghost story set during the Spanish Civil War. Also interesting is Todo sobre mi
madre.

Speaking of Almodóvar, I finally got around to watching "Los abrazos rotos- Broken Embraces". I recommend it- great acting, writing, cinematography and direction. Broken Emraces- Los abrazos rotos US Trailer
