The truth is that at the end of the day it is a great time to be a Mandarin learner.
There is just so much content (for English speakers) it's ridiculous. :)

Mastery will take years, but there is certainly enough content to get one conversational
in a reasonable time.

Agreed, there is a lot of great material available.

I've listened to the first 6 lessons of CLO, and I like it a lot. No banter and it's short and sweet so I can fit it into the little time I have in the day to study.

Hi Guys,

Anyone have any updated thoughts on the podcasts? I was thinking it would be a good
time
to review our options again, especially since some of the courses have gotten more
expensive in the last year or so.

1) ChinesePod
Basic Sub. 1yr. $124
Premium 1yr. $249

2) ChineseLearnOnline
Superscription 1yr.$149.95

3) PopUpChinese
Superscription 1yr.$99.99

4) ChineseClass101
Basic Sub. 1yr. $48 (very basic)
Premium 1yr. $120
Premium+ 1yr.$312

5) iMandarinPod*
DVD Format Only(?)
3 years of content $96

6) CLSPod*
Subscription 1yr. $179.99

7) melnyks.com
Subscription 1yr. $127

8) Confucius Institute Online
(http://www.chinese.cn/learning/en/)
Free

P.S.
Are there any more good podcasts we may have missed? I'd like something a little less
Beijing focused. Either more Standard Mandarin or a little more southern (think
Shanghai/Taipei). Beijing is nice, but I'd like to keep things balanced before I decide
which accent to try to mimic more. Chinesepod is starting to lean a little more Beijing
nowadays from my understanding. Anyone find anything new

ChineseLearnOnline can also be purchased by level for working offline.   The PDFs, audio lessons and audio dialog only/repeat material is altogether about $60 per level. I've never used their videos and cannot comment on those.

The PopUpChinese premium 1 year subscription is currently on sale for $99.99. There is also a basic subscription which is something like $50.

Hey Snowflake,

Yeah, I also noticed that they all have different options, but I wanted to try to make
them somewhat comparable...so looking at there yearly subscription prices seemed like the
best option. Do you have any new feedback on these nowadays? I'm just trying to aim for
a neutral accent. Beijing has a bit of heavy "r" use and consonant "slurring" that I'm
trying to keep to a minimum. From what I understand, Taipei standard is seen as "soft"
and a slight southern/Shanghai is "pleasant/chic" because of it's use in
business...any thoughts?

LatinoBoy84...Beijingnese having constant slurring, does this refer to talking super fast or their "abbreviations" such as 明天见 or 明天儿见 becoming mier2 jian4?
