So I'm interested in learning Slovak in the future (not now). I am going to Germany and Slovakia in less than a month (I know a girl that lives in Slovakia). Are there any Slovakia exclusive materials there that I should pick up while I'm there? Are there any decent materials anywhere online, book, CDs, etc?

Thanks.

I guess my question should have been, "are there any other Slovakia exclusive materials other than the ones listed in case the page is outdated?"

I don't know how up-to-date the page is, but I trust newyorkeric's statement that it's updated.

In any case, some of the links on that page are annoying in that they just take you to other search pages.

I recently took a look at a course titled "Slovečina Pre Cudzincov" (Slovak language for Foreigners) that's written specifically for foreigners. It's mostly in Slovak, but does have some English sections for explanations. Looks like a good resource. You can buy it from Amazon.

I know there's also a Colloquial Slovak course. Don't know how good/bad it is.

The links on the list are reasonably up-to-date (whatever I could get my hands up to last month) while the list of books is based on what I've used and seen up to a trip to Slovakia last year.

Among beginners' courses from or easily obtainable in Slovakia (as I understand the phrase "Slovakia exclusive"), I would recommend that you look at:

- Slovenčina ako cudzí jazyk - A - Hovorme spolu po slovensky! (Angela Zebegneyová, Anna Puzderová, Beáta Baková)
- Slovak for You (4th ed.) (Ada Böhmerová)
- Slovenčina pre cudzincov (Slovak Language for Foreigners) (Tomáš Dratva et al.)
- Slovenčina pre cudzincov - Gramatická a pravopisná cvičebnica (Slovak Language for Foreigners - Workbook for Grammar and Orthography) (Ľudmilla Žigová)

I've put some comments about these books in the Slovak profile, so just scroll down to the "BOOKS" section in the profile as newyorkeric mentions.

There's also a new online course for beginners in Slovak modelled on the Esperanto one "Lernu". I've never used this new course as I had already got a background in Slovak the old-fashioned way with textbooks and cassettes (including Colloquial Slovak) but it seems pretty good with dialogues, videos, grammar notes and exercises.

Is there an FSI Slovak program?

Nearest I can find is Beginning Slovak. You can buy it at Amazon.
