With the recommendations that using a log helps, I figured I might as well give it a
try. I took four years of Spanish in high school and I will admit I hated most of that
time. So much memorization of vocab lists and dreaded reading assignments. This lead
to me taking a year of from languages last year which was my first year of college.
Towards the end of the year I started to realize I wanted to finish learning Spanish
since I had a foundation all ready. So, I started up again this Summer. I have been
mostly using Pimsleur and MT with some random websites thrown in here and there. Any
tips are recommended of course.
My initial goal was to study abroad in a Spanish speaking nation, but as I researched
the possible scholarships there were very few for learning Spanish since so many
already know it. The main scholarship I will be attempting to earn this year will be
the Boren scholarship. I have not decided on the language I will be going for yet, but
the front runner is definitely Portuguese.
As for my Spanish routine today I will do three lessons of Pimsleur which will probably
be all I do. I also have some books from the library Complete Spanish Grammar and one
of the Teach Yourself books. I have tried to read Harry Potter, but I find I lack the
vocab for it to be any use.

I feel like I am remembering more and more everyday. I am starting to use some Spanish
phrases without realizing it so that is a good sign. I want to amp up my studies, but
the holiday weekend poses a challenge for me. After it I will up it.

Hey, sounds like you are doing well.
I personally stopped using pimsleur after I had completed the second level, as I felt that it was reaping very small rewards for the amount of effort I was putting in.
Have you tried Learning Spanish Like Crasy? If you like Pimsleur, youl love it as it uses the same format, but moves faster and teaches a lot more vocab.
Their are certain courses I wish I had used much earlier on in my studies. Definetly get hold of Assimil if you can, and maybe Platiquemos. These two course go a lot further than any others I have seen. If youve got roughly 1 1/2 hours a day to study, then you will get a lot out of that time with these courses.
I hope thats useful advice, best of luck with your studies, Ill be following your log!

Thanks for the advice and support. I will see if I can get my hands on some of those.
My funds are limited which is why I am using whatever is available at my library. I
need to make/buy some flash cards soon. I feel Pimsleur is good though just because it
gets you speaking sentences which is always ideal. We shall see I want to be fully
conversational by the end of August.

Have you tried Anki or any other SRS/flashcard program? I've found it's very good for studying extra vocabulary outside of the program's lesson.

I plan on knocking out the rest of Pimsleur in the next 9 days. I will hopefully get
some good language exchange partners also. After Pimsleur I think I will go with
Assimil or Learning Spanish Like Crazy.

All of a sudden I got three language exchange partners last night and today. I can
decently talk to them, but it is rough going which is what I expected. The one thing
that is difficult is they like to use regional vocab/slang and obviously I do not know
all of this. This is just a minor complaint though as it is easily explainable. Anyways
I continued with Pimsleur today.
