I'm giving you a very forthright advice: don't
read Dante. It's
Italian of the XIV
century, it is very difficult for us Italian speakers too... Some English speakers told
me that they find it hard to read the English translation too.

La Divina Commedia is one of the most beautiful pieces of literature in the history of
Mankind but, honestly, it's completely useless for people who are learning Italian, in
my
opinion it would just mess up your knowledge.

Well, it's too late because I already did 6 months ago.

However, I agree that it's by and large useless for the purpose of learning modern
Italian.

Sorry but I didn't realise that this log was so old. So, just out of curiosity, on a
scale from 1 to 10, how traumatic was it?

I think the biggest problem is that it's so damn long. When I read it by myself I really
couldn't understand much at all, because it's full of allegories and references to
historical figures. So I found this commentary that would explain each canto and that
made it understandable, but it took ages to finish the whole thing.

Been watching a lot of French clips on youtube lately, above all comedy which I love. And
it's going pretty well, I'm starting to feel quite comfortable. When I try to write
something my intuition has improved too, I can sense where some of the accents are going
to be. But it still feels a bit like effort, like I have to concentrate to get as much
out of it as I can.

At this point it feels a bit like being at a friend's house. It's really nice there, fun.
But Italian is like being at home, just a bit more comfortable and familiar.
