Thanks for the info, I'm from North Wales and although I've been in Cardiff for a year now it still feels like I'm new -
plus any Welsh people I meet immediately see me as a 'gog' (not in a bad way, but all the same...)
Now I realise why I haven't heard much Welsh, I live in studenty east Cardiff.. haha! And with regards to the Mochyn
Du, I'm not really a pub person, but I guess I could actively look for people to practise Welsh with through the
university - hmm... I'll see what's coming up in the events/activities for postgrads this fall.
What are your plans for Welsh?

I won't have time to embark on a new language until Christmas. I think Welsh might be an ideal language for me to do a 6 week challenge early next year though.

OK, so a busy weekend, but I managed to procure a "Welsh in Three Months" book, and have done some study
this morning. I've been carrying on with the "Colloquial Welsh" book and have been moving through the present
tense as well as learning the vocabulary that comes with that - all very interesting.
It's going well, I'm remembering a lot through school and I have a lot of motivation to finally speak the language I
should have learnt to speak so long go.
Some phrases:
Dw i ddim yn siarad Cymraeg (yet!)
Mae Morgan ac Eddie fan hyn.
Mae e/hi - ydy e/hi
maen nhw - ydyn nhw
Ti gartre heno?
Mae'n bwrw glaw heddiw!
Mae Gwenllian i ffwrdd heddiw.
The book I'm using shows both North and South Wales Welsh, although I'm sticking to the North Wales version
where I can because this is where I am from and this is where I am likely to use it etc. But it makes it a little bit
more complex.
The verb 'bod' is very important in Welsh! And there are quite a few forms, but then when you get the hang of
those forms it does actually seem to make sense...
Dw i'n dysgu Cymraeg = Dw i (yn which becomes 'n) Cymraeg = I am learning Welsh
Which you can then use with any verb...
Dw i'n darllen, Dw i'n edrych, Dw i'n prynu, Dw i'n deall, Dw i'n mynd
All good!

You might want to try saysomethinginwelsh.com, it has an excellent, free, audio course, I know it helped me a lot when I studied Welsh. It also has a forum full of what I like to call 'Welsh Fan-boys' who will really help keep you on track.

Thanks for the info =) I'll add it to the learning materials, although I'm happy with 'Colloquial Welsh' and 'Welsh in
Three Months' at the moment.
And I need no help keeping me on track, I even did 30 minutes before breakfast this morning!
Phrases:
Wyt ti'n barod nawr? Wyt!
Ydy hi'n braf heddiw? Nag ydy, mae hi'n ddiflas heddiw...
Hwyl.

Well, been away for a while and I've done lots of Catalan but no Welsh at all - so I'm
kind of half-fulfilled, right?
I've improved my Catalan a lot (I was in Catalonia) and I've realised that I can not
only read the newspapers in Catalan, but also start to construct sentences and watch
the TV (although it is much easier to read...) So I need to concentrate on production
of the language, which I will do by working through the Colloquial Catalan book I have
=) I hope to make good progress!! I wonder where I will be by Christmas?
In terms of Welsh, I just need to get back into it after a week of speaking and reading
Spanish and Catalan - but it's OK, it's my home language and I feel good when I sit
down and learn - I'm hoping for a 20 to 30 min session tomorrow.
Bona nit, els meus amics!

Wow, the Ph.D is really taking time out of my language study! I haven't done Welsh for two weeks... Although I can
not sit in on Undergraduate Catalan classes so it's not all bad news. But hopefully I'll release some time this
weekend?
Però el meu català va bé! Ja que puc llegir necessito parlar més i també escoltar etc. Dilluns vaig aprendre coses
com "ros", "llarg", "lleig", "gros"... Hi ha que veure més Tv3!
Fins després,
l'Àlex.
