I have thoroughly rewritten and expanded the former Croatian profile largely on the grounds that a prospective learner of any one of the standard languages within BCMS can expect to gain access to the associated cultural output that is not specifically linked to the standard language that he or she has learned. This is similar to the outcome where someone who has learned American English has almost all of the required linguistic background to begin exploring writings of British authors or songs of Australian musicians, despite not having learned British English or Australian English respectively.
As always comments and corrections are welcome from native speakers of BCMS.

Has anyone been to the State Linguistic University in Belgrade (I suppose that's what
it's called.)? I went the Minsk State Linguistic university for about 5 months this
year, that was great. They run Russian courses for foreigners. Really good teachers and
inexpensive. I heard there is a similar set-up in Belgrade.

The link for the audio to Thomas Magner’s “Introduction to the Croatian and Serbian Language” is no longer functioning.
