Hello everybody,
I am hoping that you will be able to give me some guidance on the best way to go about learning Danish.
I am a native English speaker, and my language experience is limited to studying German at GCSE level. I always enjoyed languages at school, and have decided to try and learn Danish (it seems a big commitment just saying it - but I think it will be a fun journey!)
I am interested to know how I should go about teaching myself, and would be really eager to hear from anybody out there who has self-taught Danish.
Can any of you recommend any books or websites(if you are allowed to recommend books and links to other sites, if not no worries :) ).
I was thinking of trying to find some native speakers to have Skype conversations with, or just chat to over emails/facebook.
When I studied German at school the lessons were well planned and structured, but now facing the task of learning a language on my own seems daunting , so any advice on how you structure your learning would also be appreciated.
Thank you for reading this, I will be grateful for any and all advice.

Danish lessons:
Dansk her og nu (Lessons with audio)
Fjern-uv (Exercises with audio)
Danske udtale (Pronunciation)
News:
Berlingske
Kanten (1 weekly subject, full with HQ audio. It's excellent)
Books:
Saxo
Estrup (free and legal literature. Click on 'Tekstsamlinger')
TV:
DR Nu or DR Forsiden
DR 2
Sputnik TV
TV2
Others:
Ny i Danmark (in case you want to live/work/study in Danemark, here you have all the information you need)
Geoviden (Magazine about geology and geography)
Videnskab
Try to get Colloquial Danish, Teach Yourself Danish and/or Aktivt Dansk. They all come with audio (I'd recommend you Assimil Danois, but it's French based)
Hope it helps!
Have a nice day and enjoy learning!
Guido.

Hi again, just wondering are you able to access Dansk her og nu website, because it loaded for me the other day but I can't get it to load now, and wondered if the problem was my end or their end.
Cheers

I'm also getting a "runtime error". Let's hope they solve it ASAP

I would also like to thank Guido for those links, especially the one for Danske Udtale.
(Oh, and I could not open Dansk her and nu either).
One of my recent discoveries is The Danish Study. You can get a free trial subscription, but I extended mine with a paid subscription. There are great verb drills and bingo for help with the numbers.
I have not really made use of it yet, but Learn Oasis looks like a pretty good free course.

I'm dabbling with Danish and I'm having a lot of trouble with the pronunciation,
specifically the vowels. I just checked out the book: Rødgrød med fløde: en lille bog
om dansk fonetik from the library and it looks to be really helpful. It's done in
IPA and comes with short recordings. Most of the other material I have tends to gloss
over or vastly simplify the pronunciation, so I'm really glad to have this resource.

I have justed checked the voice quality at Google translate, and even though there are some sound compilation problems the voice of the speaker itself (a lady from Copenhagen, I guess) isn't bad.
