Iversen, thanks much for that feedback about Google Translate. I use that speaker quite often and it is nice to know that she is actually useful:)
Egill, I can't wait to get "Rødgrød med fløde: en lille bog
om dansk fonetik" from my library. I just checked and our system has it - yeah!
I have two grammar books - the one that I like the best is "Danish: An Elementary Grammar and Reader," by Elias Bredsdorff. But I warn you that it is OLD; it was published in the 1950s. I got it used at a good price and I really like it a lot.

Sorry for hijacking but I've opened embarrassingly many threads recently. I've been planning my 6 week challenges for the next year and I started wondering...
About once a week, I watch football in Danish. I love Aalborg and sometimes there are also good streams in Danish for teams from other countries. However, unlike with Romance and Slavic languages, I feel like I'm not benefitting from this at all. I've picked up some words like mål, frispark but most of it is just a beautiful flow of sound to me. I understand some cognates in the written text but not in speech.
How much studying would it take for me to start benefitting from this weekly exposure? Okay yes, I'm considering a 6 week challenge. February looks like a nice time too, right before SAS-Ligaen renews. However, I'll be a bit busy at uni in February so it seems more sensible to do a six week challenge in a more familiar language. I won't have classes in January but I'll have exams so I'm wondering whether I could squeeze in some Danish introduction.
I think I once tried some listening-reading with German but it was still a stream of sound. Perhaps also my German's fault though, and I don't remember for sure - I just remember how I prepared for a German exam by LR'ing Andersen's fairytales. But perhaps I just TRIED Danish/German, but ended up doing German/English. Can't remember arghhh.

I also picked up The Phonology of Danish by Hans Basnøll. It's much more
technical and a lot of it may not be as relevant for learners, but it is in English and
he uses almost the exact same notation as Grønnmum. And of course it's very
comprehensive.
