I wrote a really long post and now it's gone... *sigh*. I'll rewrite it later...
Quick Update:
-Taking a break from Swedish, will restart it in May (will explain in the long post)
-Starting French: Again, will explain in a long post.
-Chinese: I love reading liddyime's log it's really encouraging me and everytime I read it, it makes me go back and study! I will write about my progress with learning the radicals and mastering tone combinations later.
I hope the post turns up somewhere, it took me so long to write it!!

So my post has not shown up, so I will try to rewrite it.
UPDATE:
Well, We are 18 days into the New Year and I'm already switching up my languages. I'm
actually surprised I lasted so long!
1.I've decided to put Swedish on the back burner for now. I feel like at this point in
time, I don't have the time to devote as much time as I want to Swedish due to my
course load. I have decided, however, to instead pick it up back up in May when school
is over.
2. A few days ago I received a really neat email from my University about a french
course that is offered that allows High Intermediate to Advanced French learners to
improve their French and receive a certificate of bilingualism upon completion of the
course. I need to learn French for a variety of reasons, but I have been putting it off
due to my horrid experience with it in grade school(Grades 4-9 Core French *shudder*).
I believe this is the motivation I need to finally learn French. The course is offered
in January, and since I can't sign up for it this time around, I hope to be able to
take part in it next year!
3. I am still on track with Chinese. I am still trying to learn all the radicals and
master the tones by the end of the month.
Materials:
-Assimal New French with Ease *
-Assimal Using French *
-((Maybe Michel Thomas)) *
-A french Grammar Book (to be updated)*
-MindSnacks French **
-Babbel French **
-Listening to French Radio, Television, Watching a movie with French Subtitles
-Billingual English/French Novels *
-Children's Books, Teen Novels, and then Adult Novels in French*
-Communicating with friends who speak French
[*: Available at Local Library.
**:iPhone Apps]
MINI-GOALS:
1. One lesson of Assimil a day.
2. Start DLI in Chinese.
3. Post more often!!!
I am really enjoying reading all the logs in the Language Learning Log subforum! good
luck to everyone and may you be stronger than I and resist the urges of wanderlust!!

@Serpent: Thanks for the advice! I've downloaded it and it seems great! Unfortunately I
was at the public library at the time, and I guess it just logged me out of HTLAL! I
know, i'm still heartbroken! *sigh*
Thanks for the good wishes and wish you all the best in your studies as well!!
Happy Chinese New Year/Lunar New Year to everyone! 恭喜发财! 新年快乐!

So January is almost done (i swear it flew by so fast!) and it's time to tally how many
hours I've studied:
Swedish: 4 hours
Mandarin: Bits and pieces of studying here and there. Have not met my goals of learning
all of the radicals, so I'll try to finish them in February.
French: 0 hours. I will start Assimil on the first of February (said the
procrastinator)
To everyone who is participating in the TAC challenge: 2012 is a very unique year, we
get one extra day for studying (yay leap years!!)
Goal for Feburary:
-Do assimil
-Study french everyday
-Study mandarin everyday
-memorize all of the radicals

Wow! Another month has flown by, leaving 10 months left of the TAC challenge! If only
school could fly by this quickly!! I battled a nasty chest cold for two weeks, delaying
my studies, but nevertheless here is an update of what I've done in February!
French:
Hours Studied: 15. I worked a through Easy French Step by Step by Myrna Bell
Rochester and I am on the 10th lesson of Assimil.
Mandarin
Hours Studied: 13. My study time for Chinese added up really quickly! I read a
lot of articles on ChinaSmack and ChinaHush (which in turn taught me A LOT of hilarious
internet slang!), listened to Chinese radio for countless hours while working,
memorized the lyrics to Teresa Teng's 月亮代表我的心 (and I understand it too!), worked
through Laokang tone trainer, mindsnacks mandarin (I'm on lesson 9!), and worked
through learning all of the radicals, a goal I still haven't completed. I also began
Beginning Chinese by John Defrancis at a rate of a lesson a week. (I have completed 2
lessons so far)
Goals For March:
French: Do Assimil Everyday. Work through easy french step by step. Read labels of in
French first and try to surmise the meaning of the sentence. Begin listening to french
radio to get a feel for natural speed spoken french.
Mandarin: Work through Defrancis' Book, finish learning the radicals. Try to study
everyday. Begin learning 10 characters a day. Learn another new song in Chinese (it's
going to be: 何日君再來)
I've noticed I'm really enjoying studying! I really look forward to the next lesson of
Assimil! I even contemplated bringing the text with me so I can read it instead of
listening a boring lecture on research methods!
Good Luck in March everyone!!

I've also noticed a little problem. I keep mixing up French and Mandarin! Every time I
try to do some self talk in French, I keep inserting Mandarin words instead!! I have no
problem separating say English and French, French and Somali, Somali and Mandarin,
Mandarin and English, it's just French and Mandarin. Any advice would be greatly
appreciated.
