I looked back a bit to see if you'd said much about your reasons for learning it. In
this post here (chrome will likely make a mess of the URL but maybe you can put it back
together...):
http://how-to-learn-any-language.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?T ID=32081&PN=1&TPN=6#390731
You gave a nice little pro and con list, and the cons were things like lack ot
opportunity to use the language or get any immersion. Short of an extended visit to NL,
I can't think of any cure for that.
But in any case, you said in the same post you'd be studying it for "a few weeks"
before starting your next language.
Maybe it has just run its course?
(I'm not trying to be defeatist here; just looking on as an outsider to your own
comments).

After reading your post yesterday, I consulted my pillow. I guess you're right...
Probably it has just run its course. I must admit that I am still frustrated about the
negative points in that list...
I know some people don't like taking classes with tutors, but this seems to suit me quite
well. Dutch was the first language I learned by myself, so I'll just blame my
subconscious for upsetting my plans, and forget about it. :-D
While I'm waiting for my Swedish course to start, I'll focus again on Russian. I never
ever felt upset with Russian, even if I spent an awful lot of time learning it...
Thank you very much for your tips!

Let it be for a while. If you really like it you'll come back to it at some point. I've
been sick of all my languages at some point.

And I firmly believe no learning is wasted, and one day, new opportunities may come
along, and the work you put in will bear fruit.

With all this mention of running out of steam and things running their course, an image of Thomas the Tank Engine suddenly popped into my mind (you see, I'm really just a child at heart).
["Toot, toot!" - this is him.]
And oddly enough, his cheeky round locomotive face reminded me that every language project I start, or more appropriately restart again and again, lays down track for another. Sometimes, I run out of steam and simply need some time to cool off in another language or hobby. Other times, I'll have to stop for a herd of cows or get derailed from language learning altogether (lol). However it's never the end of the line each time...because sure as anything, sooner or later, I'll be back on track again!
So don't you worry, we all run out of puff and need a good break or change of scenery. But you've made miles of progress already, so don't give up on the language altogether, as you never know what's around the next bend. :)

Hej allihopa!
This monday I finally started to learn a Scandinavian language: Swedish! It is an
intensive course that takes place from monday to friday, for three hours every day. After
three weeks we're supposed to be able to pass an A1 test.
The material is modern and anything but boring, and we also get some extra stuff from our
teacher. It's not even a week we just started, but we're already able to introduce
ourselves in Swedish, to have a simple conversation about our person and our holiday, and
to ask for directions.
We use TALA SVENSKA textbook, workbook and audio-CD leading to an A1 level.
Jag lär mig svenska, för att kan tala i Sverige!
Hej då!

@Mae, I am glad to have found your log :). I'm starting a Swedish intensive course this
October. I hope my course will be as enjoyable and efficient as yours! BTW, I've also
chosen Dutch for this 6WC (although I had less time than you, unfortunately). And I've
learned some Swiss German which you're lucky to speak as a mother tongue. :)
