The challenge is a great idea, Kanewai, and I'd love to join with either Italian or German. Either A1 or less, or
self-definition of levels is fine for me.
What kind of time-frame or closing date were you thinking of?
One suggestion re scheduling: if we move it forward - to perhaps the beginning of October? or even to
mid-September? - we'd avoid some of the busiest days of the December holiday season, as well as giving
people some time between Six-Week-Challenges to focus on this, or to get a headstart on their target language
before the 6WC starts.
(The next dates for the 6WC are, I think: Wed Aug 1st to Tues Sept 11th; and Thu Nov 1st to Wed Dec 12th.
[Please correct me if I'm wrong on this.])
Or would people find the December period okay for this language-learning project? Or be happy doing the same
target language for both the Assimil challenge and the 6WC?
What d'you / others think?

I'd say 6WC and Assimil are like polar opposites, though many include Assimil in their massive study during the 6WC, along with other materials - which leads us back to the question about using them.

Well, if the goal is to test Assimil and only, then obviously it cannot be part of a 6WC. But isn't it more of an experiment rather than a "challenge" (which most people here understand as contest..)?
If the idea is to compare Assimil across language, then it could make sense to do only one lesson a day, but of several languages. This may be quite tough, but perhaps that's the goal of a challenge, and perhaps it could teach us the difference between good and bad language methods, between easy and difficult languages (no, of course Spanish is not easy...).

I'll do several languages for sure;) Including at least two intermediate ones though.

I started an Assimil course in Egyptian hieroglyphics just a couple of days ago, and only aim to study a little bit in bed before falling asleep. If you don't mind me entering the challenge part-way through the course, you can count me in too! :)

Starting in September or October wouldn't be convenient for me. I'm taking a Spanish exam in November and will spend some days in Czech Republic immediately afterwards so I'd like to focus on Spanish and Czech exclusively until then. For the Assimil challenge I'd like to choose a new language, work with Assimil for the very first time and follow their instructions to see how far I get. However, I'd like to know how the other possible participants think about re-scheduling, especially as some already seem to have the Assimil course they want to work with at home and are anxious to start.

It's kind of tempting. I already own Spanish with Ease although I have not looked at more than the first couple of lessons, and that was a long time ago. A close family member is likely to relocate to a Spanish speaking country at the end of this year. If things work out for them, knowing a bit of Spanish might be of use to me, and if we go for a December start the timing of this proposed challenge would match up quite well for me. I won't commit just yet, but will keep an eye on how things develop.
As for rules or protocols, I wouldn't want to be too prescriptive, apart from a request that other participants are honest about the amount of any previous study undertaken, current level, and any other interaction with the target language they have throughout the challenge.
