I'd just keep writing on lang8, even with no response. That's how it was with Finnish, but after I put out a
decent number of entries, I think someone took pity on me and started correcting.

I've started writing on Lang-8 recently. I'm using it for my German and Arabic.

I write when I have an idea - and usually it's at least vaguely related to what I was doing/reading/watching.

much (it's easier at the lower levels because you encounter issues more often).

I'm with Sprachprofi; I think it works well at the higher levels. I'm kind of opposite, my writing has always been a weak spot because I started writing after I learned to speak. I've picked up all the natural bad habits people have when speaking plus the normal (gender) mistakes that an expatriate makes. I can't ask people, "hey, can you watch for my mistakes" because I've been an expatriate for a long time and now it's a bit awkward to ask for assistance. I go once a month to lang-8 and write something. If there is a mistake I try to learn from it. It helps me to maintain a certain level and prevents me from keeping any of the nasty habits I get into when surfing or speaking ;)

I've used in in the previous months for French and Norwegian. It works pretty well for French, I even friended people who will help me whenever is necessary. OTOH, people started correcting my style and register, which is not a bad thing but can be annoying at times when you just want to get subjunctive right.

As for Norwegian, my last post is awaiting for correction for over a month. So, I basically plan to limit lang-8 to very common, overlearned languages.
Have you tried looking for Norwegians learning Portuguese? English native speakers are at a disadvantage because a lot of people already speak good English, but there are still many members learning Russian/Spanish/Portuguese/pretty much anything that isn't English.

The point is not finding penpals, it's rather getting things corrected. I don't think the
posts in Norwegian are that many, any natives would be able to see them even when they
hadn't friended me.

Thanks for "bumping" this thread. That list of ideas a few pages back is GREAT!

Yes but it's also about returning the favour. The posts of those who correct yours are always the highest priority. Also, don't underestimate the popularity of Norwegian in Europe :) It's not as rare as Georgian!
edit: you don't need to actually treat them as penpals... just correct their posts!

I see, Serpent. I'm saying this because my latest posts in Norwegian in lang-8 never got
corrected. And even if there are Norwegians learning Portuguese, there are so many
Brazilians there (like in any other social network) that I'd have to hit F5 all the time
in order to get a still non-corrected post in Portuguese =D
