So if anyone wants to continue with a Polish team, now's the time to get recruiting. Advertise your intentions here and in the TAC sign-up thread, and hopefully there'll be enough interest to attrat a nucleus.
The other suggestion would be to join/propose a Slavic Team; there was talk of a Warsaw Pact team but I don't know if that's going to happen.
All suggestions welcome.
Do you want to continue with a Polish Team?
I've declared my hand, hopefully in time for other to re-organise if they so wish.
Please declare your intent, so that everyone knows what's happening, and can plan accordingly. |

I'd love to join the Polish team if it continued next year. I've planned to study Polish next year, and would be happy to share the experience with team mates, be they beginners like me or more experienced Polish speakers.
I've studied Michel Thomas two years and a half ago, and know relatively well the content of the latest Assimil book, but this is mostly passive I would say. My goal for the year is to aim at a solid B1, trying a sort of certification by the end of the year if possible (that tends to help me keep focused). I'm not sure how realistic my expectations are (either too hard or too easy?), given that I think I can put a daily hour of work in Polish.
Anyway, that's what I'm here to discover, and I hope to discover it with other Polish learners!

Hi vermillon!
The current team is undergoing change. Some of us (including myself) are leaving as we want to give TAC a miss next year. Some people have dropped out for unknown reasons. The result is that we are left with 2 members, Fuenf Katzen and Chung, who are happy enough to continue. With you, there would be 3 members which might be enough to revive the Polish Team and get the ball rolling if someone is prepared to act as leader. It's not gonna happen on it's own.
What does everyone else think?
If anyone badly wants a Polish-only team I suggest that they take responsibilty for promoting that idea, now. The possibility is there, but will require a lot of touting within the TAC community because there's been little active interest so far.
A stronger possibility might be to go with a possible Polish-Ukrainian Team bearing in mind that both Fuenf Katzen and Chung will be studying both of these languages, and the thread for such a team already exists.
vermillon, I think you have two choices. Consider starting a Polish-only team yourself (who else will?) or support the creation of a Polish-Ukrainian team. I think the second choice might be preferable at this late stage. If so, register your interest there (with Chung) and lobby for an inclusion of Polish.
Either way, thanks for visiting us and good luck!

I just wanted to stop by and thank Mooby for his excellent leadership of the Żubr team in 2013. I joined late (and dropped out early :)) but I really enjoyed interacting with you and following your log for the few months I was part of the herd. You were very welcoming, interested and just present, and that made a difference. It's maybe due to you that I'm still going strong with Polish. I hope you'll continue studying this beautiful language with us, Mooby, and stay around here on HTLAL, and I wish you all the best for a TAC-free 2014!

Because of the strange (in my mind at least) apparent drop in interest for Polish, I see three options in descending order of likelihood for 2014 when it comes to a team.
1) Join the emerging Polish-Ukrainian team since at least Fuenf Katzen, Serpent, hribecek and I plan to study both languages although I admit that the team can seem biased toward Ukrainian.
2) Keep Żubr going for another year as the Polish team.
3) Join *jäŋe/*ledús since Polish meets the criterium of being a Balto-Slavonic language.

Many thanks Bakunin, it's really nice to hear from you again!
I'll definitely continue with Polish next year, and probably create another log.
So I won't be far away. In fact I'll be "just round the corner"!*
* nice pun on the word "róg"

I have to agree with Chung that the level of interest in Polish this time, is seemingly low. Last year we had a surge of interest and fielded a team of 12 (increasing to 15 later).
Unless someone takes Option 2 by the horns (sorry for pun), it looks like Option 1 is the more likely solution, as Chung mentioned.
To reiterate: Anyone wanting a Polish-only team should declare their hand as soon as possible. And crucially; anyone willing to lead such a team (or keep this Żubr team going) should also make this known.
Otherwise Team Żubr will cease, and Polish learners would have the option to migrate to whatever team they qualify for (basically Options 1 and 3).

Thanks Mooby and Chung for your answers. I don't think I can lead a team, not to mention doing recruitment, if even the current members are jumping off the boat.
So I'll probably join *jäŋe/*ledús since I'm planning to study Polish and Hungarian and both of them fit in there. Hopefully seeing all these people studying other languages won't tempt me too much.

Hey vermillon, I think joining Team *jäŋe/*ledús would be a good move.
Sorry I couldn't turn you into a bison for Christmas....maybe another time!
My best wishes, Mooby.
