I recently finished the second audiobook of Jean Auel's Earth's Children - in Swedish.
It wasn't really planned out like that, but I couldn't get my hands on the Danish
version fast enough, so I just went with Swedish. It was darn hard at first, I missed a
lot of the first third because my mind went wandering a lot during that time. But towards
the end of the book, I could understand most of it with ease, even when my focus was on
something else than the book. I'm glad I went through with it even though I had my doubts
at first.
I've watched Forbrydelsen (the first one) in Danish - what a good TV series that is. I
usually don't like crime series, but the Danish stuff is just awesome.
I'm more or less back on track.

Hi, glad to see another Danish learner, not that I've been very active lately.
We were massive fans of Forbrydelsen in this household, especially the 1st series,
although we've seen them all, plus Borgen 1 & 2, plus "The Bridge", plus "Those Who
Kill" ("Den Som Dræber"), plus all the Wallanders......you can see we are pretty hooked
on this sort of stuff.
BBC4 are showing Borgen 3 from next week, although I actually cheated and watched it
(uden subtitles) on DR via the internet. I couldn't follow most of the dialogue, but it
wasn't hard to follow what was going on from the context, and there was actually a lot
of English, for reasons I can't go into without spoiling the plot for anyone who hasn't
seen it.

Oh, just read in an earlier post that you had started Assimil Danish, back in February
or so of this year.
May I ask how what you thought of it? Was it helpful?
I take it this was "Dänisch ohne Mühe"?
I recently got this, although I haven't really started it in earnest yet.
I previously worked through TYS "Complete" Danish, which was OK, although I didn't find
the audio as helpful as it might have been, and I'm hoping for better things from
Assimil.
Do you happen to know if that is the only Danish course in Assimil?
Thanks.

Danish movies and TV series are the sole reason I'm learning Danish :D They are
exceptionally good, better than the Hollywood stuff nowadays.
as far as Assimil is concerned, here a quote from a previous post:
Quote:
The audio recordings are unnaturally clear and too easy to be useful, but at
least they inform you how to pronounce the unknown words, which isn't always obvious in
Danish. Unfortunately there are lots of mistakes in this edition, especially many
typos, but also some gender and plural mistakes in the glossary. No big deal for me
because it isn't my first course, but for the intended target group that might be
problematic. Without the mistakes and typos, it looks like a pretty good course for a
beginner, if you have the stamina for those long lessons (I see them rather as an
advantage, because they offer you more insight into discourse than short lessons).

Whether this course is helpful to you depends on what skills you want to improve and
what your current level of Danish is. You could certainly do worse.
Yes, I used "Dänisch ohne Mühe", and as far as I know, there are no older versions of
it, and certainly no advanced editions.

watched Pusher (Danish movie) today - wasn't as hard as I expected, still the most
difficult movie I've ever watched in Danish

Just did a rough calculation of my Danish stats for this TAC season:
I watched about 140 hours of TV series.
I listened to about 185 hours of audio books.
I watched several hours of movies (between 5 and 10 hours I think)
I participated in about 25 hours of classes.
I went through Assimil.
I've done less than 10 hours of Anki reps.
I've read blogs, board entries and news for countless hours (>100h and counting).
I've done much less for Norwegian I'm afraid.
