hyvää iltää HTLAL
This is going to be my log for the TAC 2013, in which my main target language is going to
be Finnish. I will probably post about other languages here also as this is my first ever
log i've started on here.
Well, lets go! minä haluan opiskella suomea!

Juu, mennään vaan! (Yeah, let's go!)
I'm happy that Finnish is one of the languages on your list. It's fascinating and can easily occupy all of your attention but of course you're free to post about your work on other languages. All that matters is that you study at least some Finnish or Russian (or for that matter any other Finno-Ugric or Balto-Slavonic language) at some regular interval if you want to stick around with us on *jäŋe / *ledús.

Sounds good to me, I'm a a chat operator on polyglot (language site) and I have some
friends on there from Finland and Russia - so that gives me times to practice things that
I learn, I'm just going to have to investigate ways into how I learn and remember.
So allow me to be a little bit dumb here for a moment, as in Finno-Ugric or Balto-
Slavonic that means I could study things (team wise) such as Estonian, Latvian,
Lithuanian, Polish, Czech etc ?

Finnish
So today I thought I would do something simple and start off by re-tuning myself to
Finnish numbers, just to start off 'slowly' I guess, so I reviewed 0 to 99 and then
looking back on old notes (after dabbling in the past) I found the phrase "kuinka
vanha olet?" - which (if my notes are correct) should mean "how old are you?
I then (using a .pdf I have) learnt the days of the week:
Maanantai
Tiistai
Keskiviiko
Torstai
Perjantai
Lauantai
Sunnuntai
then finally I re-taught myself the phrase minä puhun vähän suomea

That's the idea. To be on this team you must be studying at least one language that is Finno-Ugric or Balto-Slavonic, regardless of whatever else you study that does not belong to those groups. However whether you're studying that Balto-Slavonic or Finno-Ugric language at full throttle or not isn't important. Similar to what I noted somewhere else, if you study Finnish 30 minutes every day, or Russian 1 hour every week on Monday after lunch, or Inari Saami for 2 hours total per month and only on days that start with 'T', that's your decision.
