I stumbled on the manuscript of the textbook "Linguistics for Students of Asian and African Languages" by Eifring and Theil which is hosted as a .pdf by the University of Oslo in the webpage for a linguistics course in 2005.

It's quite easy to read and in English, and I think is useful as an alternative to whatever information is found in Wikipedia. It's roughly on the level of "Teach Yourself Linguistics" by Jean Aitchinson which I have read and found to be a concise introduction to the discipline for non specialists and helpful for getting a handle on talking about linguistics on this forum or similar.

Very nice introduction. Thank you for recommending it.
It tries not to be as focused on Indo-European as traditional introductions which is quite refreshing.
