I'm back home from Spain now so can start focussing properly on Croatian again. While travelling over the past few days I started my final Julius Caesar book and unexpectedly got hooked on it, so in total I have read 220 pages so far.
There are eight weeks of work left until I go to Macedonia and Serbia (not that I'm counting!). Unfortunately I might have to cut Montenegro out of the itinerary because of problems with the rail line from Belgrade to Bar after the recent flooding. I feel like there are a lot of things I need to work on before then.... expanding my vocab, brushing up on my grammar, improving my Cyrillic reading... oh and actually learning some Macedonian!
I think the first step is to reactivate my Memrise account, which currently has 1539 unwatered plants.
Also now that I am home I have no excuse not to watch some more films for the Super Challenge.

Well, I said I had no excuse not to watch films for the Super Challenge and then I got home and found my computer had died. I have a laptop for work, but I can't watch videos on it because I'm not allowed to install any software. Two evenings spent reinstalling Windows later it appears to be working again, so hoping that I can watch something tonight!
In the meantime I have been reading; another 42 pages of 'Bogovi Rata' since I got home. I took the plunge and started watering my Memrise plants. I felt like I did loads yesterday but I am still on 1346 unwatered.

I did quite a lot of Memrise yesterday so am disappointed to see I am still on 1220 today. Having been away from it for a few weeks does actually show one of the flaws in the system; I keep getting words wrong because I've answered with a word that fits the definition but isn't the one the course was expecting. Of course, I could resolve this by going through the definitions and setting alternative answers, if I could find the motivation. Someone left a comment on my BCS course on Memrise asking if I was planning to add the vocab from the rest of the chapters. I'm currently only up to chapter 15 with it at present, so this will give me some motivation to make a start on chapters 16-20.
I have read another 20 pages of 'Bogovi Rata' since my last post. I'm quite enjoying it now. Not sure what I am going to read next.
Yesterday evening was dedicated to watching TV. I watched two more episodes of 'Bitange i Princeze' (including a Christmas episode, which was about as unseasonal as you can get!) and three episodes of 'Eurobox' on Deutsche Welle. 'Eurobox' feels a lot easier to understand than 'Bitange i Princeze' and I think I could feel some improvement in my ability to follow it from when I was watching it regularly earlier in the year. This brings me up to 20 films, so only another 450 minutes to endure before I make it to my first star.

I have had a proper blitz on Memrise today and got it down to 394 unwatered, which is a big improvement.
Hopefully I will have it under control by the end of the weekend.
Yesterday evening I watched one more episode of 'Bitange i Princeze'; I think I'm now about halfway through
series two. Today on the train I read another 17 pages of 'Bogovi Rata'.
Tonight I finally(!) achieved my aim of finding some audio books in Croatian and, even better, managed to
find an audio book in Croatian for which I could also obtain the text.
(I hope I have got it right that for the Super Challenge a) you are allowed to count listening to an audio
book as a film and b) you are allowed to read the text as you listen so long as you don't count it towards
your SC reading.)
Anyway I have got 'Grimizna Studija' by Arthur Conan Doyle and I listened to the first 45 minutes this
evening. On the one hand it's not ideal to listen to/read Sherlock Holmes in a foreign language because I
realised last year when I was reviewing a translation of 'The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes' into Esperanto
that they are actually quite difficult books which contain some quite obscure language and cultural
references. The Croatian translation also uses a tense which I'm not very familiar with (I'm guessing it's
the aorist). On the other hand, it's a great choice because I am a huge Sherlock Holmes fan and I have read
this particular book so many times in English over the course of my life that even though I can't understand
all of the words in Croatian, I still have a very good idea what is happening :) We will see how I get on!

I've been out for most of the day, but when I got in this evening I dedicated myself to
Memrise and can officially announce that I have now reached Memrise-zero :)
Then I decided that I really needed to go back to doing some grammar study, so I dusted
off my copy of 'Bosnian, Croatian, Serbian: A grammar with sociolinguistic commentary'
and started some revision. So far I have reread the first two chapters, which is about 35
pages. I learned one new word: 'gibak' (flexible).
This evening I watched one more episode of 'Bitange i Princeze' (36 minutes).
Tonight while watching the football I added about 275 words from chapter 16 of the BCS
textbook to Memrise.

I believe the rule is that you can count the text or the audio but not both at the same time. So you could listen & read, and count the listening part, then listen and read again, and count the reading. But you'd have to do it twice, if you want to count the same book for film & text.
Love the log! Keep up the good work.

This ^^.
To me it's such a crazy thought, tbh. I basically always count the reading part hehe.

Thanks both :) For the time being I'm just going to listen once and count the audio, in
the hope of increasing my 'film' count a bit! I'll save the books and maybe read them
separately some other time if I start running out of material.
