Hi all, I'm starting this log mainly for the sake of participating in Team Start.

I'm
relatively new to language learning and am taking these two on for the sake of
hopefully studying/working and travelling in hopefully the near future.

Spanish because after finishing college I'd like to continue my training in the
US where Spanish is widely spoken and I will apparently have ample opportunity to use
the language on a daily basis (in a hospital setting).

French because I have the opportunity to spend a year on Erasmus in France
(September '15 - May '16), which would be a bit of fun and an incredible opportunity to
really become fluent in a foreign language, which would be nice.

My current level in these languages (Jan 3rd) is modest to say the least. I have a few
months Spanish self study behind me and also took some private tuition from a native
speaker. I'm 45 lessons into Assimil Spanish with ease and have worked through the
Michel Thomas Spanish courses. I started learning French on New Year's day so don't
have too much to report yet either.

I'm planning to set new goals monthly and review them at the end of each month.

I intend to use a lot of workbooks and reading materials for the earlier part of the
year and then to start using Italki and working on conversing after a few months
(perhaps sooner in Spanish as I already have some foundation and will probably be
visiting in July).

January's Goals

I want to dedicate a lot of time this month to building a foundation in the grammar and
by the end of the month hopefully introduce myself to reading.

Spanish I'm just over halfway through Practice makes Perfect verb tenses and
will keep working at this daily. I'm about 45 lessons into Assimil so will keep
plugging away and begin the second wave. I have a collection of short stories sitting
on my bookshelf, Spanish folk tales each a few pages long for beginner students of
Spanish and I'll commit now to working through the first 4.

French I've started the Michel Thomas course and will continue with this. I'm
also a couple of pages into a verb drills book and will keep going. I'll also start
Assimil's French with ease in a couple of weeks when I get back to Dublin (left the
book at my uni house...).

In addition, I'm also gonna try and implement a few good study habits. So when I do get
back to college this month I'll invest my time spent on the tram in and out of college
into LR. I've cut the Assimil tapes into tracks each with ten dialogues and the
silences truncated. Now just to use them.
