You know, you might solve yourself some problems with handwriting if you forgo the vowel marks.
In common speech, the tanween are usually dropped, unless it's the idafa, so kitabun is pronounced kitab but kitabun Muhammadin becomes kitab Muhammadin.

The sample sentences also get easier:
Al walad jameel. Al ghurfat kabirat.

الولد خميل. الغرفة كببرة.

I thought proper nouns were not nunated in everyday speech.
So I think it should be kitab muhammad and not kitab muhammadin.

Further, the mudaf is definite, so it does not take a tanween either.
So, in formal Arabic, it would be kitabu muhammadin.

All this is very new for me so I may be wrong. :-)

Could an advanced student(Luso?) or a native speaker please help?

I am sure that at the level of Arabic I am at right now, I am probably in over my head! But since I posted a picture of my writing, I do think
it should be correct! :-) So I looked up this morning about proper nouns, and they also should be inflected.

So if I understand this correctly, the proper written pronunciation of the sentences I wrote would be: (please let me know if I missed
something!)
1. hatha miftahu Jihanin waw huwa abyad.
2. hathihi sayyarau Jihanin.
3. sayyarat-ha jadida waw jamila. (I put the dash so it would be obvious it's not a "th" sound.)
4. hatha kalbu Muhammudin, waw huwa aswad.
5. kalbhu jamil waw kahfif.

I think the book I am using is just wanting to get you to write sentences right away, even though they really haven't explained all of the
grammar. I guess I will just have to be aware of this and supplement with websites where I can. I have enjoyed this discussion, though,
because it got me digging and I learned a lot! :-) Of course, I have no idea if adjectives should have any inflection other than adding the ta
marbuta for feminine nouns... :-)

Thanks Napoleon and Zireal for your help. You are both writing the answers to these things for me, but it seems like I almost have to search them out for myself
to really understand! But please keep posting because it is definitely helping. Your suggestions give me a direction to head for my own study!

In everyday speech, jadida waw jamila becomes jadida wa jamila, the second "w" is dropped.
I'm not 100% sure about proper nouns, but nearly everything loses nunation/tanween in everyday speech.

This is going to be a quick update, as I am packing for a three week trip. This is not a pleasure trip but for work, and there will be lots of
traveling, meetings, and conferences, so I may be a little quiet for a few weeks. I actually took my name off of the consistency log. Not because I
haven't been being consistent, but because I haven't had time to update, and I probably won't for three weeks.

SPANISH Total Hours: 35 (last week 7)

Assimil: First Wave Lesson 31 - scriptorium Lesson 25
FSI: Unit 16 Scriptorium Unit 5
Pimsleur III: Unit 20
Coffee Break Spanish: Lesson 42
Notes in Spanish: Lesson 9
Destinos: episode 37

ARABIC Total Hours: 20.5 (last week 6)

Mastering Arabic: Chapter 8

Weekly assessment: We had a nice discussion this week regarding the handwriting sample I uploaded. It was quite helpful because it made me dig
into the noun cases. Chapter 8 is a review chapter, so I hope to get all of these things solidified into my mind. I will be supplementing with webpages I find
on grammar points that I feel my books is just glossing over.

I hope everyone has a good, productive week. I hope to update each week, still, but every last minute extra I have for the next three weeks will
be spent on languages, so my time will certainly be limited! Thanks for everyone who has already given me advice, and I look forward to even more interaction
in the future!

Good job Nancy. You are doing great. I cannot imagine tackling more than Spanish right now. I am very interested in how your journey plays out. Before you know it you will have conquered something that the majority of the world only dreams about doing (especially our home country!). Good for you.
