It's not necessarily about the verb "to be" though.

In terms of casual American speech, every single example discussed so far sounds wrong.
Some might be grammatically correct, but they all seem a bit posh.
I looked at the links Gemuse gave, and these sentences (all from Heather Hill) flow
nicely:
1. My career as an editor has been immeasurably enriched by working with inspiring
women writers, yet the world of publishing would have been inaccessible to me
without the time and support I was given when first starting out.
2. Oh yes, this line IS on my cutting room floor. I’m so ashamed… and yet
comedically proud at the same time.
3. As I write this line, longhand, she is here pressed by my side huffing like a
petulant teenager because it’s not playtime yet.
4. Yet he still talks to me.
5. I still hated my job but I knew I couldn’t leave just yet
For each of these the 'yet' is at the start or end of the clause. I think this is the
key for achieving a more natural use. So for Silvance's example I think that most
Americans would say I am not married yet rather than I am not yet
married.
