Alert! I haven't forgotten this thread, nor have I given up. I won't have access to HTLAL for a couple of days, so my status report for January will have to wait till next week.
Hope everyone is having fun with the chosen language(s)!

Quick update, Teango signing in... I've spent no more than a few hours on Irish this month, logging into Duolingo to boost one of my wavering skill sets every other day, keeping the coals glowing and the gold medallions shiny. ;) I'm counting on February for a more substantial upswing in study and progress.
Here's a very brief introduction from me for the Team Celts' January challenge. I'm sure it's chock-full of mistakes, as I only had a couple of minutes to write it down without checking during my break (I did look up "chomhimreoirí" [teammates] though), so please feel free to correct my poor example:
"Dia daoibh, a chomhimreoirí! Is mise Teango, agus tá mé ag foghlaim na Gaeilge. Tá mé i mo chónaí i Haváí in aice leis an bhfarraige i láthair na huaire, i gcás ina mhúineadh mé i ollscoil, ach is ar dtús o Shasana mé. Tá mé leath-Éireannach féin agus ach thosaitheoirí, ach ba mhaith liom ag fhoghlaim na Gaeilge go dtí leibhéal maith lá amháin. Ádh mór do gach duine i mbliana!"

January Challenge
Thanks for posting your challenge, Teango! Otherwise I wouldn't even have noticed we had one!^^ So, without further ado, here goes my self-introduction. I'd be happy about corrections (by Liam?) as well!
Dia dhaoibh, a chairde!
Is mise Christian agus tá mé 30 bliana d'aois. Tá mé i mo chónaí sa Ghearmáin agus is mac léinn mé. Tá mé ag déanamh céim taighde sa cheoleolaíocht agus tá mé ag scríobh mo thráchtas anois. Is maith liom ceol, teangacha agus léamh agus is breá liom Éire, mar sin thosaigh mé Gaeilge a fhoghlaim dhá bhliain ó shin. Sílim gur teanga dheacair í, ach tá sí an-spéisiúil agus an-álainn freisin. Tá súil agam go bhfoghlaimeoimid móran in éindí.
Beirigí bua agus go n-éirí an bóthar libh!

Hi, I'd love to join Team Celts if it's not too late, and you're willing to have a forum
newbie who only started Irish a few weeks ago (I've studied a few other languages in the
past, though).
I too tried to send a private message to you Jeff, about joining the team late, and got the
same full inbox error message as Emme did. And unfortunately as a lowest tier of member, I
can not see your email either (I think this is so spammer newbies can't steal it, which
makes sense). So I figured this was the best way to ask to join.
Dia daoibh. Noel is ainm dom. Is foghlaimeoir mé. Níl mé Gaeilge agat.
... and I'm not even so sure about that last sentence. Does it work, or does something
weird happen to "níl mé"
[ETA: weird, the preview function totally scrambled my accented characters, but it fixed
itself in the actual post}

You need to construct the sentence differently. The correct version would be "Níl Gaeilge agam", literally "I don't have Irish" or, even more literally, "There isn't Irish at me".
The words for "at" and "me" merge into one word in Irish, so it is "agam". "Agat" would be "with you", so your version doesn't really make sense. Literally, what you wrote translates as "I'm not Irish at you".
PS: Welcome to the team! ;)
