In a situation where I have problems understanding simple texts even with the help of a bilingual version and a dictionary I can study other, stronger langugages, but I don't like to have two or more languages at that level. However once I can read things with a little help and I have got a feeling for the new languages I can relax again, and then I don't mind juggling around with half a dozen of languages in an evening.

You can study lots of languages at the same time, but I'd advise you to step it up slowly. The more you learn about learning languages, the easier it will be for you to juggle multiple languages without burnout. So I'd say the number of languages you can handle effectively at the same time is proportional to the number of languages you already know. If you speak three languages well, I'd advise you to limit yourself to studying two languages simultaneously, especially if some of your current languages are not the result of disciplined self-study.
On these forums we've seen A LOT of people make the journey from initial enthusiasm to taking on too much to burnout to giving up. Don't be one of them. It's a marathon, as they say, not a sprint, and you need a long warmup period.
