It seems that I will finally have some months off since I am just about to get my degree . I would like to
take advantage of that for an immersion stay in Germany . But how ? What could be a good method to go
about doing that ? I am not so convinced that a language course would be the best option , plus they
often tend to be quite expensive, nor I intend to go do the dishwasher or similar jobs. I would like to be
given some ideas, thanks .

It might be worth considering where in Germany you want to do your stay. I live in Berlin: It's a great city, but perhaps not great for immersion, as there are so many foreigners here, and people are pretty used to speaking English.

Some cities (other than Berlin) in the former East might work a lot better. Depending when you come you could even aim for a Ostsee holiday town and learn German while enjoying the beach. Alternatively Leipzig (aka Hype-zig) is a meant to be really cool, and has a nice university town atmosphere. Erfurt is also meant to be really nice, but I've never been there. The Pediga shit in Dresden has put me off the town, but that's probably a bit unfair.

I am sure that there are lots of smaller towns in the North also worth considering.

Would you consider volunteering at a farm? (WWOOF)

If you don't want to be on a farm, why not Google volunteer opportunities somewhere you'd like to go?

Or maybe you like meeting new people? If so, CouchSurfing and similar sites offer you a lot of opportunities for getting around, meeting new people, speaking German all over the place.

This seems to be a good idea.

If you can hack it, why not consider learning French by joining the French Foreign Legion? Not only will you
without doubt learn French really, really fast, you'll be surrounded by people from all over the world. And,
you're going to learn a whole bunch of really cool stuff like shooting guns, surviving in the desserrt and other
soldierly stuff.

:)

A brother of a friend tried that and ended up deserting and now can never re-enter France.
