I asked my acquintance to give me one example of Arabic sentence, and she gave me this:
Quote:
Anaa adzhabu ilal madrosah.

Which means:
Quote:
I go to school.

My question is, why didn't she use "dzahabtu"? As far as I knew, it is the Arabic word for "go" if the subject is first person, or am I wrong?

Adhabu - I go (present)
Dzahabtu - I went (past)

OK, let me guess:
I go to school = Anaa adzhabu ilal madrosah
I went to school = Anaa dzahabtu ilal madrosah
Am I right?

So, "Fa'ala Fa'alaa Fa'aluu Fa'alat Fa'alataa Fa'alna Fa'alta Fa'altumaa Fa'altum Fa'alti Fa'altumaa Fa'altunna Fa'altu Fa'alnaa" are all used for past forms? And what are their present forms?

Yes, those are the past forms (starting with the 3rd person masculine, as is the custom in Arabic paradigm).
One more tip: the past forms rhyme in many cases ("antuma fa'altuma", "antum fa'altum" etc.) I think only the singular forms and 1st person plural "nahnu fa'alna" don't rhyme.

I've found the paradigm in Wikipedia invaluable for those cases when I can't recall the form. You'll be interested in the first two columns - future tense is just sa + the present tense.

The paradigm in the link goes 1st-2nd-3rd person, masculine-feminine, so in an order much more familiar to us Indoeuropeans.

Thanks. By the way I want to compliment her, saying that she is kind and beautiful. Which one is correct?

Anti khoirun wa jamiilunnisaa'.
Anti khoirun wa jamiilatunnisaa'.
Anti khoirotun wa jamiilunnisaa'.
Anti khoirotun wa jamiilatunnusaa'.

I'd go with: anti lateefa wa jameela

(or with all the endings: anti lateefatun wa jameela(tun))
