(I 'erased' this political post because it might have been, perhaps, offensive to some.)

^ I think we should use the above quotes as the new benchmark for basic fluency on this site. If you can construct more logical sentences in your target languages, as far as I'm concerned, you've got a proficient command of it. And as a bonus, if the target language is English, you'll have the satisfaction of knowing you speak as well as the most powerful Englishman on Earth :^)

Concerning "Persian or Farsi" I have created a separate topic at [Specific Languages : Persian or Farsi]. So please write your related posts there.

- Thanks in advance.

Hmmm... It's just so tempting to post his ridiculous statements for all to see. Bushisms are hilarious and scary at one and the same time.

Hey, if the statement is of linguistic interest, I don't see why not.

(I 'erased' this post because the content was 'political'. If you are curious to know what the content was, read the quote in AML's post.)

Have fun analyzing these:

"There's an old saying in Tennessee—I know it's in Texas, probably in
Tennessee—that says, fool me once, shame on—shame on you. Fool me—
you can't get fooled again."—Nashville, Tenn., Sept. 17, 2002

"The law I sign today directs new funds and new focus to the task of
collecting vital intelligence on terrorist threats and on weapons of mass
production."—Washington, D.C., Nov. 27, 2002

"You're free. And freedom is beautiful. And, you know, it'll take time to
restore chaos and order—order out of chaos. But we will."—Washington,
D.C., April 13, 2003

"I glance at the headlines just to kind of get a flavor for what's moving. I
rarely read the stories, and get briefed by people who are probably read
the news themselves."—Washington, D.C., Sept. 21, 2003

Is 2008 almost here?

That's great. We get the idea. Can we keep politics out of this please, or
do you want to see this thread get closed? Aren't there other forums for
you to post that stuff in? Thanks.

You are right, AML. But politics is not under discussion. These statements illustrate the point that I make in my first post, namely, how easy it is to make nonsense in English if you never pay attention to what you say, or to what anyone else says (for we also learn to speak better by really listening to others). Nevertheless, I promise I will post no more Bushisms. Whoever wants to read more of them can find them online.
