Back in college, I briefly fooled a native Brazilian into thinking that I was from Sao Paulo. It was only about 5 minutes of small talk, but it was a big confidence booster.

A small Persian girl told me the other day I had an accent similar to her uncle... I never found out where he was from though! That would have been nice to know.

Neither-- After 5 minutes of small talk, he asked me some questions about Sao Paulo under the assumption that I was from there, and I quickly said I wasn't. My Portuguese teacher was from Sao Paulo, so I guess I really absorbed her accent. 1 person has voted this message useful | ||||||

I've fooled the LEbanese speakers 3 times in a row !
First one, I met her on the net and she gave me her number. Then on the phone I greeted her in Lebanese Arabic. She asked me where I'm from and I told her I'm Asian. She did not want to believe that I'm Asian. She reckoned I could pass as an Egyptian LOL 2nd one, these Lebanese girls were coming over to my apartment. One of the girls who had never met me in person spoke to me on the phone so I would open the door for them. I greeted her in Lebanese. SHe was surprised and asked if I'm Middle Eastern !? LMAO 3rd time, I met this girl on the net again and got her number. I called her a week later and started the convo in Lebanese Arabic, she was surprised and asked who the hell I was. I said, " Oy, it's me the Asian dude you talked with on the other day!". SHe said, " OMG, I Swear I thought you were Arab !!!" LMAO LMAO 1 person has voted this message useful | ||||||

I've done that, on occasion. I wouldn't say it's fun, but then again, I've always done this in the context of safety/self-preservation. Pretending to be an English-speaker who doesn't speak a word of French (true, except for the French part) has been of significant use to me before... 1 person has voted this message useful | ||||||
