Sorry to say it but your review sounds more like a sales pitch. You seemed to stress the materials are a "must", people would be "missing a huge chunk", and "effectiveness will skyrocket" more than an actual review of the program. It just a little over the top to me.
When someone does a review they usually say how it worked for them. What they liked or didn't like. They use the word "I" a lot in describing how it worked for them. However, when someone is trying to sell something, they use the word "you" a lot, as in you need the books, you are missing a huge chunk, your effectiveness will skyrocket. How do you know how it will work for me? I think the post should be removed as it doesn't appear to be anything more than a sales pitch and not an actual review.

It is a sales pitch. Quit messing around with Pimsleur and try something more effective. The Capretz Method address's your concerns here about the way our memory works. Just give the videos a try and see what you think.

I *love* FIA. I went from 7-year-old high school french to advanced through this course. I was able to buy the textbook and workbooks inexpensively on ebay, and my local library system had the audio cassettes, which I copied and listened to in the car. I recommend the workbooks and text for more practice with the grammar; I was able to get some of those from the library as well.

I hear you. Thanks for looking out for me and encouraging me to persue other methods.
I started the FIA videos 4 days ago. At first I was going to wait until I finished Pimsleur to give my full attention to it, but it has been going rather slow, so I decided to do FIA also. I figure since most people do FIA several times, I will continue to do Pimsleur but also do FIA passively the first time around, which will put me further along then if I wait to start FIA until after Pimsleur. By then I hope to be done with Pimsleur and will look into getting the workbooks, text book, and audio tapes for FIA for the next go around. I really like FIA so far. I enjoy Dr. Capretz and his enthusiasm. It's a big difference to see the action along with the words. You can tell at the beginning of the videos where the girl introduces her mother and father, that what she is saying means her father and mother because of her actions.
I am doing one video per day. I did yesterday's video in the morning and then repeated it at night and found I picked up some things I missed the first time around (which I learned in Pimsleur but which apparently didn't stick), so will probably do one video a day but repeat it.
Thanks again for trying to help me progress! I appreciate it.

As I wrote in another thread, I bought the entire FIA program for $15. (I got video tapes and audio cassettes. And the full quota of textbooks.) I haven't started the program yet but now I am inspired to start. I have just met a deadline for my new math(s) book and haven't had much time for anything else.
It reminds me of a course that came out in the sixties, En France, comme si vous y etiez. I wanted it badly but I couldn't afford it. It had records, a newspaper and textbooks. Does anyone know anything about it? It accompanied a television series.

I don't know if it is the cheapest way but you can click on the "Buy Videos and Materials" link at the website where the videos are. The prices seem pretty reasonable to me based on prices I have heard people paying elsewhere. I think you get a lot more and a much better program than the $600-$700+ Pimsleur charges for their Audio Only course. You don't have to buy the videos since they are available online, but even if you did, the total still is cheaper than the three levels of Pimsleur. You can buy the materials individually so can try Part 1 and then purchase Part 2 materials if you want to continue. Here is a direct link to the get them

The problem is that there are multiple versions of the audio tapes and workbooks, so it's hard to tell if you're buying them online which version you'll get, and if it's the right one. That's why I was glad to find most of them at the library, since they come as a set.
