What, no love for Sex Machineguns (Japanese metal with fun lyrics) or Metalucifer (basically the Japanese version of Manowar)?

No mention of Shining yet? I'm disappointed. Awesome black metal, the lyrics are mostly in Swedish.

There's a lot of semi-underground French black metal out there, mostly with lyrics in French, for example Grisâtre, Peste Noire, Angmar (whose lyrics are quite bad, in an entertaining way). There's Alcest; their early stuff is pure black metal, their newer full length-albums are shoegaze/dream-pop combined with black metal, and beautifully executed, they're one of my favourite bands.

European folk metal has been quite trendy for the last couple of years (trendy by metal standards anyway) and as people have mentioned a lot of the bands sing in their native languages. A lot of it's just boring and generic metal riffs with folk instruments tacked on (e.g., Metsatöll) but there's definitely a few good bands out there.

Hmm, here goes nothing...

Negura Bunget (Atmospheric Black Metal - Romanian)
Lumsk (Folk Metal - Norwegian) I'm not sure I saw them here before, but I had to
mention them, since their first cd was in heavy rotation at one time...
Týr (Folk/Viking Metal - some songs in Faroese (might be Old Norse or Icelandic), but
mostly in English)
!T.O.O.H.!/Duobetic Homonkulus (Technical Death Metal - Czech) Of course, you probably
can't hear what they're singing about.
Holmgang (Black Metal - Danish)
Angantyr (Black Metal - Danish)
Impaled Nazarene (Black Metal - some songs in Finnish on "Suomi Finland Perkele".
Moonsorrow (Atmospheric Black Metal - in Finnish) Were they already here?

Crash - Korean Thrash band. I don't think they've made a lot in Korean, but they
made at least one song in Korean. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qom0u-PnHtE

That's all I can think of right now...

EDIT: I forgot Ulver! Their output is certainly very varied, but Bergtatt is still
one of the best Black Metal albums I've ever heard. Nattens Madrigal is decent, but a
little more "Necro" in its production values. Oh, and they're Norwegian, of course.

I second Danac's Negură Bunget recommendation. Here are some more:

Kvist - (Norway). Only released one album (For Kunsten Maa Vi Evig
Vike
), but they're good Symphonic (but not overbearing!) Black Metal.

Stíny Plamenù - (Czech Republic). Black Metal and I love the album Ve Špínì
Je Pravda
. The imagery, themes, etc. seem to revolve around sewer systems and the
like, so I can only assume that the lyrics will be about such topics as well!

Splitter - (Sweden). Very intense and well-played Grindcore with Swedish
lyrics.

Thorr's Hammer - (U.S./Norway). Doom/Death band that only released an E.P. by
the name of Dommedagsnatt, but it's another great Stephen O'Malley-headed
project and the lyrics are in Norwegian.

Lucifugum - (Ukraine). Very prolific Black Metal band with Russian lyrics,
though I can speak of only their Instinct Prevalence demo compilation, which
includes a more symphonic style, and a simpler, rawer style. I'm told to stay away
from their newer material...!

That's all I can come up with right now as far as bands who always sing in a language
other than English. There's also Brujeria; I don't listen to them, but they're
Death/Grind with Spanish lyrics. Belenos, Black Metal (w/other influences) from
France. Drudkh often has lyrics in Ukrainian; they're Black Metal, but they've
also made albums that are more based in Folk. And finally there's Hellveto, an
astonishingly prolific Orchestral/Pagan/whatever Metal one-man band from Poland. I
don't have anything by him, but I hope to change that! Also, I think it goes without
saying that the vocals in these bands are probably already fairly unintelligible, so if
you can't find the lyrics...

I quite like Слот and GIRUGAMESH can't get enough of these two groups at the moment.

One interesting band is TrollFest from Norway. They use a "trollish" language that they
came up with by merging Norwegian and German together. It is actually quite amusing when
looking at the lyrics and the music is hilarious.

Eluveitie is a Swiss band that some songs with lyrics in a kind of reconstructed Ancient Gaulish. Celtic scholar David
Stifter wrote the Gaulish lyrics I believe.

Yeah, their newest album is in English though. Also, I heard that their next will be back in Gaulish, but I can't find the source...
