Is anybody planning on watching it without subtitles? I know I am! :-)

haha funny guy... Well, unless you are planning to wait for the blueray release, I guess fellow theatergoers are going to be tickled to see you wear glasses with a strip of black electrical tape across the bottom -- or at least that's the only practical way I can think of to avoid seeing the (certainly present) subtitles in the theater.

I'll probably watch it on blueray without subtitles as soon as I'm really fluent in Icelandic and have had the time to pick up Old English. If I'm able to read Old Norse without any difficulty, I don't think it should be that much a problem to understand Old English. However, I've also heard that there might be some "Old Gaelic" involved here, so I'll just have to wait and see how doable this really is. I'll certainly watch it first in the theaters, which would make it easier to watch it again on blueray.

I'm just hoping Gibson doesn't hire a lot of Icelanders for this, that would be really stupid seeing as Icelandic has changed over the course of time. Old Norse "ek (I)", for example, turned into Icelandic "jeh (written ég).

Haha, I don't know :p Today there are two ways of going about pronouncing Old Norse:

a) the Icelandic pronunciation
b) the reconstructed pronunciation; based on comparative linguistics

I guess the latter still applies to Old English. Frisian probably sounds a lot more like English used to, though--but I can't say that for certain.

I really loved The Passion and Apocalypto so I'm sure I will like this one as well. Mel Gibson is the master at this genre.

This would be indeed a wonderful movie to watch as I plan on studying Old Norse one day and it would be great to
have an entire film dedicated to it.
Does anybody know if this film is still on?
