I have just bought a satellite kit from aldi in the uk for £50. With this kit I can
now watch rai 1,2,3 rai sports1,2, rai news 24, rai gulp, mediaset and many many other
(mainly rubbish though) Italian channels. This is done by aiming the dish at a
satellite called hotbird which is situated at 13e. In fact, due to an old sky dish
being in place I just had to connect the receiver to the dish, move it from astra28.2e
which is where it was aiming at to hotbird. Hotbird also broadcasts french channels,
some German, Spanish, arabic and a few other slavic language channels I think.
Incidentally, the dish that came with the kit is now up aiming at astra 19.2e to
receive eurosport (german audio) and this satellite broadcasts a shed load of German
channels.

All the channels mentioned are free to air, meaning you don't pay a subscription charge
- you just buy the kit and away you go. I got it with the intention of watching a load
of Italian tv, which I have been doing and would recommend it for language learners as
for me personally, it has increased my daily exposure of Italian from virtually zero
(other than assimil audio etc) to an incredible amount (I watched over 3 hours of the
giro di lombardia cycle race yesterday, solely in Italian). If aldi dont have the kits
right now, lidl sell them from time to time or you could go somewhere like currys or b
& q and pay more (i saw a hd kit in currys for £99 the other day).

I hope this is of some help.

Tom
