I wouldn't argue with someone claiming to speak Italian over that until I'd been able to talk to them personally. When people here so "I speak _____" they usually mean they can have an easy flowing conversation about most topics. When a lot of less serious language learners say it, they often mean they could probably order a pizza or check into a hotel but it would be hard.
Generally it's important to clarify that kind of thing. When talking to people I'll usually tell them I could get by in Germany but not easily. As for the Jersey Shore cast... well I don't know Vinny personally, but I suspect (s)he is using the average Joe definition of speaking Italian. 1 person has voted this message useful |
