France Culture is an amazing resource Tons of podcasts to choose from. My favorite is
"Hors-Champs", but there's also "Sur les docks" and many, many others.

"Au coeur de l'histoire" is another great podcast, about diverse historical topics. If you're interested in history, I recommend it warmly. You can find it on iTunes. |

Thanks for what looks like a promising selection. For those who don't use apple, the link is here. You can listen to or download full episodes, or shorter sections called le recit.

I'll check out some of these; interesting and non-generic content in French really is
quite hard to come by! Another interesting one is "Place de la toile" on France Culture,
which is about the Internet, particularly from a cultural perspective.

Les années-lumière is a wonderful long-standing, science-oriented podcast.

I didnt especially like O Positive, but while sampling a few, I came accross this (hour long) podcast of mongolian camel drivers' music with the bonus for language learners, that the intros between the songs etc. are in French and German. Now if that isn't cool, I don't know what is. The music is strangely hypnotic. I actually thought it was Scottish or Irish at first, which probably says something about my tone and language deafness, but I think there's something in it.
There isn't much info on the site, but it's the 14 feb programme of le-monde-est-un-village
direct episode download link here (50Mb)

There's also a short podcast from France Info Les Pourquoi. It's not strictly scientific but it answers various questions about general culture. You can listen to the show on the website and it's on iTunes as well.

Thanks for all the recommendations! I've subscribed to all of them to check them out. There are already a few I like and will listen to on a regular basis.
