Here's a list of books/tasks that are in progress/need to be done:
goo.gl/o03IR

If you want to participate, just put your name in the "volunteered" column and email me
at the address listed on the website. I will eventually write up some guides on how to
use the software and I'll probably upload half-completed books so you can just grab
them and get to work.

A question for French speakers: which translation of Don Quijote is better?
Charles Furne's ( http://www.gutenberg.org/files/42524/42524-h/42524-h.htm ) or Louis
Viardot's ( http://www.gutenberg.org/cache/epub/16066/pg16066.html )?

I have the book 'The Little Prince' in Korean. And some other text file books as well. How I can help you? Am I going to send text file for you? :o

I would like to help. My mother tongue is Korean and English is my second language. I read threads and can't understand some things. What can I do for you? First, before sending the text file for you, should I check the text file with English version ? Or Is it fine to send just text file?

I have no knowledge with computer programming, and I have hard time to understand your thread.

Anyway, I want to help! :)

Hello hanasea,
Unfortunately many translations of The Little Prince are copyrighted. Is the Korean
translation copyrighted? If it is, I can't put it on the website.
If you have copyright free Korean texts for the books that are on
http://farkastranslations.com/bilingual_books.php , you could help me add Korean to
those.

So, is anyone interested in participating in this project? A couple of people contacted
me but nobody came through so far. I just added Tom Sawyer in English, German, Hungarian,
Dutch and Catalan yesterday, and I'd like to add some more books. E.g. I have Anna
Karenina in Russian, English, Spanish, Greek, Spanish, Italian, Dutch and Hungarian.
There's a German translation on the net, but it needs to be copy-pasted from the website
chapter by chapter before I can process it. Same with Jane Eyre. Any German
speaker/learner willing to do the legwork?

I'm still interested in helping, but the task the way you've set it out seems a little overwhelming to me. Typically my approach when it comes to creating new learning tools, is that I create them right before I need to use them, and then just make them available to other learners so anyone else who wants to use them doesn't have to re-invent the wheel.

At the moment my studies don't really involve any bilingual book work, but I hope to incorporate some later in the year. I have your website bookmarked and would love to help get new materials up.

I hope the lack of response isn't discouraging, I think your website and the work you've done so far is really incredible!

Well, copy-pasting Anna Karenina chapter by chapter takes probably about half an hour.
It's tedious but it's not that big a job. I did Jane Eyre yesterday.
Of course there are limitless other ways of contributing. Finding and collecting texts of
interest, manually reviewing autoalignments etc. I listed some at goo.gl/o03IR

The biggest job is of course manual alignment review, which is tedious but it can be fun
if you are of the right disposition. It can also be done while reading the book.

I had a look at the books at your website, and while I really appreciate your efforts, IMHO, most texts are only raw-aligned. I.e., there are still too many missing sentences/paragraphs and some segments contain several sentences, which makes it difficult to compare source and target sentences while reading a book.

IMHO, it'd be a good idea to either join forces with the developer of Aglona Reader or gift all your aligned files to him.

Since ePub readers are becoming ever more popular, it would also be great a feature, if you added automatic ePub conversion to your toolset. (You could format your books like those offered by German publisher Doppeltext.)

I do have plans to generate e-reader compatible files. I have a working method for generating files in an "interlaced" format similar to the one you linked. I'm not sure if I will host ebooks, though. Too many
files, too much bandwidth. I may just make available the script that generates them from tab separated files. If you want some for yourself, I can dig up the script. Here's an example:
www.farkastranslations.com/books/Rejto_Jeno-14_karatos_auto- en-hu.mobi

As to "raw alignments", yes, most books were only partially reviewed. Some of them are fully reviewed, though (indicated at the top of the page). I think the partially reviewed ones are usable in their present state.
The alignment errors are not that frequent and not that terrible (usually off by one row, maybe two). You are welcome to help improve the alignments:)

As to the Aglona project, I saw it yesterday. I appreciate the idea, but I don't think it's going to go very far. Manually aligning texts at sub-sentence level is an arduous task so not a lot of texts will ever get
processed. This is why I use autoalignment + review, and this is why I go for multilingual alignments (if you do a text in five languages, you have 10 language pairs right away). My collection already contains
undreds of "book-language pair units", and if a few people decide to contribute, it could easily grow to thousands in a reasonable time period. The Aglona file format isn't exactly my favourite but it's workable... I
plan to grab some of their books and convert them to 'my' formats. They are welcome to do the same with mine, with proper attribution of course.
