Can anyone suggest a book or other resource that will help me understand the particular
linguistic tendencies built into Spanish that pose challenges to a Spanish speaker trying
to learn English?

Assimil's Ingles Americano Sin Esfuerzo. It is a great course for beginners and intermediates. They also have an advanced course that is based on UK English.

Thanks for the course suggestion, but I am especially interested in books or essays that
will help me understand the particular challenge of Spanish speaking English language
learners so that I can understand my students better and adopt the course materials I'm
working with.
