Our top three guesses for your native (first) language:
1. Russian

I do want to know where the Russian came from. ôo;

(ETA: And I know I wouldn't be able to pass as a native speaker ... unless it's on the internet, or everyone is pretty drunk already.)

Our top three guesses for your English dialect:

1. American (Standard)
2. Canadian
3. US Black Vernacular / Ebonics

This worked pretty well; I'm American, grew up near the Canadian border, and have lived
in mixed race cities since college.

Our top three guesses for your native (first) language:

1. English
2. Norwegian
3. Swedish

Also pretty good; the second languages in our family were Norwegian, though the
bilingual ones were a previous generation, and Spanish among my cousins who I didn't
meet until I was an adult.

It seems to be a bit off. When I took it a while back, the
top three guesses were English, Italian and Spanish.

Well, they claim to be "training" their algorithm...

N.B.: No matter what I do, the word Italiano will always be capitalised in this forum.

I see, and I assume that this was a thing in Singapore at one point, because
Singaporean seems to be a rather common result.

I see a few people have Singaporean English in their list. I wonder what triggers that.

I was not surprised by my American Standard or Canadian outcomes, considering where I
grew up. My third choice was South African English. Again, I wonder what triggered that.

Our top three guesses for your native (first) language:

Finnish and Hungarian, hm, maybe I should re-think my language learning plans...

Ebonics is also a surprise given the fact that I've been exposed to UK/Irish/Indian English dialects mostly.

Quote:

Here are some ways the algorithm has learned to distinguish different English dialects:

1. Canadians, Irish, and Scottish accept I'm finished my homework instead of with my
homework.

2. Americans, Canadians, and South Africans accept I sent my mother a letter instead of
to my mother.

3. Speakers of US Blank (sic!) Vernacular are more likely to accept he be working.

The third point might explain the guess for my dialect. I assumed it to be subjunctive
(in indirect speech spanning more than one sentence).
