The reason I made the comment was that I imagined people pre-learning vocabulary without immediately
putting it to use. If that's not what you're doing, then please ignore it.

On the topic of sharing Anki decks, could someone please explain to me how to go about doing this? I have been wanting to share some of my decks with friends for a while, but have not been able to figure out how to do it. Thank you!

Normally, entering 30 items of
vocabulary takes me at least 30 minutes, more likely more, it's tedious and I haven't
found that it helps me learn at all. If I have to spend at least a minute entering each
word, there is no way I can ever hit 50 or 100 words a day; I don't have the time or the
endurance for this kind of task.
What I do is mark any words that are coming up in my textbook as PriorityHigh so that I
see those first, and I hide or delete words that I don't deem relevant. The deck is huge
so there's still lots of learn |

Since you have an iPhone, have a look at Pleco with OCR and sound packs. Then you merely point your camera at the word you want, and keep it in focus for a few seconds, the screen flashes and the word is automatically stored as a flashcard, including pinyin, translation and for the 20000 or so most common words, even sound! You can enter 100 words in 15 minutes. It's absolutely amazing and they don't even pay me for saying it.

It's can be searched on the Shared Deck menu in Anki. Search for Mandarin Master Deck. Someone actually updated it some time ago.

Your decks are by default located in, for example c:\Users\(Account name)\My
Documents\Anki\deckname.anki (if you're using Windows 7), or some variation thereof in
other versions of Windows. In other words, open your Documents or My Documents folder,
and your decks should be there.
If you just want to share them with a friend, the easiest way is to
1: Copy the deckname.anki file (along with the deckname.media folder if your cards
contain video, audio or images) to a usb flash drive or something.
2: Put it in the my documents\anki folder on your friend's computer.
3: Open the deck (on your friend's computer).
4: Enter the browser by pressing CTRL+F
5: Select all cards
6: Choose Action > Reschedule > Reschedule as new cards
If you want to share a deck so that others can download it via the shared deck browser
in Anki, I think this is where you do it: http://ankiweb.net/file/upload
You'll need to create an AnkiWeb account first, and then just follow the instructions.
(I've never done it myself, though)

Thanks very much Irrationale for sharing this with us all.
I am following your Mandarin method as outlined in your log and I would like to utilise
your cards. I downloaded earlier https://ankiweb.net/shared/info/582747631 but I cannot
make sense of how to use this for a beginner.
My main problem is I'm at Pimsluer level 2 and I just began FSI but I would like only to
use the cards pertinent to me at my level. Is there a way that I can auto categorise the
cards for my needs? Otherwise any suggestions as to how I might be able to reuse your
deck in a constructive fashion?
