Andy, how do you change the audio language - is it by using the "help" button on the Sky remote? As it just comes up as "unavailable" for me.

Niall,

Nope, it's the following on your remote:

Services Button->System Setup->Language & Subtitles->Favourite Language

Then cycle through them until you find Spanish. EuroNews Channel 528 will then have Spanish audio.

Andy.

Ditto, got it working. This'll be great for passive listening; thanks!

Euronews was for me and still is one of the most important ways to improve my knowledge of the language that I learn at the moment. When I have started to learn French 4 years ago,the biggest improvement in its understanding came for me when I started to watch it for at least two hours a day almost ever day a week. Firstly I would watch the news in English, and than in French. For a reason that the news are almost the same every hour, you have the occasion to understand everything in global, and then you can almost decipher the words (French in my first case) that are unknown to you. Also, that I find very suitable is the type of words that is being used in it.Majority of terminology is from the world of economics and politics, so it was much more easier for me to understand a word that have some Latin or old Greek origin. Also, I can't stress enough how useful it was for me for my pronunciation when I started to learn French.
In any case, I have started to apply the same strategy this year when I commenced to learn Russian.Although I do not watch it quite often as I did it when I have started to learn French (now I apply some other strategies also), at least two times a week I watch it now in Italian,French and then in Russian for two or more hours.In my case, it really speeds up my listening and understanding potential of the language, so I would recommend to anybody to try this strategy if he/she is learning one of the 7 languages in which Euronews is broadcast.

This is like Deutsche Welle's Top-Thema (except no vocabulary notes). Still, I've been looking for other-language equivalents for ages now. Cheers for the link.

Useful website, thanks. Especially handy for those stories that do have transcripts.   Using the drop-down language arrow at the top of the page, you can change the language in which the story is reported. However, the stories aren't exactly the same in each language. (In the French and English versions of the stories I recently listened to, anyway.)

True, but the accuracy of the transripts has improved and they've got rid of that Real Media crap.
